Registration is now open for the 2017 Bald Eagle Run/Walk Challenge. This event has something for everyone – a 10k run, a 5k run, and a 2 mile walk or run. Meet in front of Cathlamet Pharmacy at 8:30 a.m., to register and check-in. The runs and walk begin promptly at 9:00 a.m., and all three of the routes will end back at the starting point. The awards ceremony will be held immediately at the end of the 10K. On June 22 four local citizens passed their Amateur Radio operating license tests: Stewart Feil, Pat Conrad, Ron Seaberg and Lynette Wright. They are eagerly awaiting their callsigns from the Federal Communication Commission so they can begin operating. All four are interested in helping with emergency communications. After a month with the number of sea lions hanging out at Bonneville Dam to snack on salmon, steelhead and other available fish exceeding the 10-year average, the number fell to just one, according to a June 7 report. Most of the Steller sea lions left by May 27, and by the end of the reporting period, May 13 to June 2, there were none remaining at the dam. The heat didn't keep 72 people from all over the northwest from competing at the Raven's Run disc golf tournament at the Inn at Lucky Mud in Skamokawa last weekend. Two rounds were played, one in the morning, and another in the afternoon. Above, after the buzzer sounded, competitors tee'd off in the second round. NOT QUITE SO GOOD--The really warm, super nice, really good weekend that was supposed to have taken place over Father's Day weekend, didn't quite turn out the way they first predicted it would, at least not here. Made a quick trip to California over the weekend to get my granddaughters home for Father’s Day. We left here at 4 a.m. on Friday morning and it was raining, arriving in Stockton at about 4:30 p.m. to excruciating heat. More heat the next day, and I left at 4 a.m. on Sunday morning to escape the 110 degrees slated for that day. Made it home in less than 11 hours to our beautiful weather. Grays River Valley Center is changing to summer hours, to allow time to enjoy the summer. The Library has new summer hours: Monday & Tuesday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Wednesday & Thursday 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Friday closed Saturday 10:00 - 2:00 pm. Sunday closed. The Library will be closed on holidays. Thank you for your support of Grays River Library. Art in the Park has been invited to be held in conjunction with Squirrel Fest this year. The event will be held in the Longview Civic Circle, directly across from the Historic Monticello Hotel, on August 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The streets around the Civic Circle will be closed during the events. On June 19, the Office of the Insurer Commissioner (OIC) announced that Premera Blue Cross has decided to continue offering individual health plans in Grays Harbor County in 2018. The executive board of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) has voted to make accommodations to the 1B and 2B Sate Volleyball Tournament for member schools that recognize the Saturday sabbath upon the recommendation from legal counsel.
