Razor clam diggers can look forward to a five-day opening beginning Jan. 27 at Copalis beach, overlapping with three days of digging at Mocrocks. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) approved the opening on evening tides at those two beaches after marine toxin tests confirmed the clams on the beaches are safe to eat. Recreational fishing and hunting licenses for the 2017-2018 season, which begins April 1, 2017, are available for sale as of January 24. Typically, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) begins to sell the upcoming year's licenses in December. NOAA Fisheries’ West Coast Region has completed a review of fish hatcheries on the Columbia River, clearing the way for the agency to distribute funds under the federal Mitchell Act that will keep the hatcheries operating while reducing impacts to threatened and endangered species. The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Crab & Oyster Feed at the Norse Hall on February 18. This will be the 32nd year for this event. The Crab & Oyster Feed is a fundraising event for the Chamber.
