  • Wine tasting and auction Saturday

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 9, 2010

LITTLE MOISTURE--While some folks didn't see any rain as this week began, it was definitely wet in the early hours of Sunday and Monday mornings in West Valley. Luckily it dried up fairly quickly on Sunday and while it was a little breezy, it was fairly decent so a lot of that last minute outside work could still be done. On Monday it was much cooler and cloudier with some rain in the morning, dry most of the day but quite wet by early evening. With this week's weather predicted to be in the 60s with some more showers, I'm thinking it will be...

  • Meeting on use of biosolids Sept. 7

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 2, 2010

Well, I hope the farmers have their hay in, as it looks like some wet weather is ahead. The rain is quite welcome for gardens being watered by hand. News from Naselle: Today is the first day of the 2010-11 school year. Let’s support them in their efforts, praise them for doing a good job and let them know we still care even if they need a little coaching in certain subjects. Remember that there is no school on Monday, the 6th, in celebration of Labor Day. I had a very nice note from Lois Bighill regarding her brother, Dan Anderson, of Grays R...

  • School sports are afoot in the county

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 2, 2010

BEEN NICE--As this work week began, we got a few clouds and sprinkles but it wasn't too bad, as the sun came out and all signs of wetness soon disappeared. However, this Tuesday morning has things much wetter, but I'm sure my plants are loving it, as the ground was hard as a rock and the dirt was nothing but dust, so a little drink is probably a good thing. Last week, the daytime temperatures were in the mid-70s and they were some of my favorites; great if you had to work outside. THIS WEEKEND--The annual chili cook off at the Elochoman Marina...

  • School to start next Wednesday

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 26, 2010

WARM--This work week is starting out real nice and there seems to be a promise of some nice days ahead. While these first two days are supposed to be the hottest, it still looks to be in the 70s most of the week, at least as forecasted at the time of this writing; not too hot or too cold. SCHOOL BEGINS-- It's hard to believe that school will be starting soon, September 1, so Fall sports will be in full swing right off the bat and it will be time to watch for school buses and kids on their way to school in the morning and back home in the...

  • Time to enjoy the 102nd county fair

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 19, 2010

ENOUGH HEAT YET?--When the temperature hit 97 degrees at my house last Saturday, I was saying "enough already!" Whew, it was hot! But thankfully, we had some cool evenings and the house cooled down so sleeping was easy. Here at least, we went from 97 to 61 in just a few hours! While we cooled down on Sunday, it was still very hot if you went to Portland or Seattle. I thoroughly enjoyed the cooler temps, and I'm sure the critters liked it better too. However, I was still seeing people with dogs in their cars during this heat wave and I just...

  • Antique doll has history of helping

    Aug 19, 2010

Well, it seems that summer is finally here, with a vengeance. The really hot days are not my favorite. Even my sister, Sharon, who is still here from California, said it is just stifling with the humidity. Lots of folks are really enjoying all the heat, though. Nancy George’s garden seems to be doing pretty good, especially in the lettuce section. She said she has an overabundance of it. News from Naselle: It won’t be long now before the kids will be back in school with homework, sports pra...

  • School registration starts this week

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 12, 2010

Two weeks already, since our home burned. We are settling in to our motorhome, making minor repairs, since it hasn’t been used in 10 years, and looking forward. Better than looking back I’d say. In my stupor last week, I neglected to thank some very important people, our volunteer fire departments. Thank you so much for all your efforts in trying to put out the fire and save our home. You were awesome. And another huge thank you to the Grays River Café for providing food for all the fire and EMS folks as well as our family. News fro...

  • County fair opens in just two weeks

    Aug 5, 2010

MIXED START--As this week begins, Sunday was warming up real quick. Our morning clouds that had been hanging around almost all day recently, gave way to sun so it was feeling quite warm to me as I was attacking the weeds in my flower beds. I was sort of wishing for the clouds again, and by golly, for the next two mornings, there was a good deal of mist falling from the sky and it stayed cloudy all day here on Monday, while other places were really sunny and bright. While we were in the 60s, other folks were in the high 70s and low 80s, so a...

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 5, 2010

Editor's Note: The house of columnist Trudy Fredrickson and her husband Delvin was destroyed last week by a chimney fire. See the story here for more details. Once again, I have to thank God for this wonderful place we live in and the awesome folks who live and love here. All I can say is thank you everyone who has offered us everything you can imagine after our house burned last Thursday. While some of you were reading my column about the Olson Family fire, my house was in flames and was a total loss. No one was hurt and all our animals were...
