  • Wine tasting and auction Saturday

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 11, 2014

SURVIVAL MODE--How did you handle the heat wave last weekend? If you were outside, I hope you slathered up in sun screen and didn't stay out there too long, as it was hot, hot, hot! It was 92 in the shade at our house and time to kick on the AC and hide in the basement as far as I was concerned. However, at the start of this work week, we actually had some moisture fall on us and I'm sure my lawn was happy to get the drink and with everything so bone dry, we welcome any kind of dampness we can get. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays...

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 4, 2014

HERE WE GO--As one month ends and another begins, we find ourselves enjoying some sunny weather once again! Last Saturday was a pretty damp day for those that were doing any camping, so I'm sure they were happy to see the sunshine come back into the picture for the rest of the holiday weekend. Of course, we had friends who had showers on Sunday morning, while we had sunshine right from the start and it only got cloudy a few times, so I guess it all depended on where you were! However, as we go into "back to school" mode, it looks to be mainly...

  • Couple brings art, energy to community

    Diana Zimmerman, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 28, 2014

Artist, professor, sailor, port commissioner, Bob Kizziar is abuzz. Not always, but at the moment, he's got a captive and captivated audience who shares his love for art, if not his history, mastery and knowledge. The corners and walls of Kizziar's home are filled with beautiful pieces crafted by him or his wife Jenny, an artist in her own right. Friends, colleagues, students and strangers have created other pieces, their payment in trade. He points each piece out, sometimes for the pleasure of...

  • Lots to do on holiday weekend

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 28, 2014

STILL WARM--Summer is still upon us as this new week begins and forecasters say it will continue all week, so folks heading out for the big Labor Day weekend should have some nice days to enjoy before the kids head back to school. Of course, there is always that chance that the forecast falls apart at the last minute or the area that you are planning on visiting winds up with a shower or two, but for now, it's supposed to be pretty decent everywhere. Beings we are still dry, the burn ban in our county is still in effect, so if you see someone...

WOW! The fair has been here and gone, I hope everyone who attended had a good time. I heard the kids had a lot of fun walking on the water in the balls. It looked fun. Thank you to all the vendors who were at the fair this year; hope to see you all back next year. Congratulations to Abbie Eaton for being crowned the 2014 Wahkiakum County Fair Queen. • Colorado couple volunteers at Fair

    Diana Zimmerman, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 21, 2014

The views at Skamokawa Vista Park and the charm of the Wahkiakum County Fair have fixed Bob and Jane Hays' travel plans for the past 15 years. Bob, 83, a retired electrical engineer and his wife Jane, 82, came to the northwest to visit one of their three children. Their middle boy lives in Woodinville and works for Microsoft as an electrical engineer. Towing a fifth wheel gave them the freedom to travel without any particular plan and on a fateful day about 15 years ago they found themselves on...

  • Are you ready for some football?

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 21, 2014

JUST RIGHT--Once we got over a wild couple of days last week with thunder and lightning and pouring down rain, it wasn't too bad, albeit a bit muggy now and then. This week started out with some rain threats but forecasters can't quite make up their minds about that, so who knows what we'll really see coming by the end of the week. Please don't be fooled by the rain we had, as there is still a burn ban in effect and fines have been doled out for illegal camp fires or trash fires recently, so when in doubt, call authorities. FAIR IS DONE--Once...

  • School district seeks facility input group

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 21, 2014

Looks like we are back to the warm trend again. Personally I prefer the cooler but this makes it nice for picking berries and getting them frozen or made into jam or pies without fear of mildew. If I could keep my dogs from helping me by eating them off the vines, I would have lots more. The gardens are producing in abundance again this year, and our neighbor, Nancy George, as usual is providing us with delicious veggies grown with her tender loving care. Thank you Nan. Our yellow transparent apple tree had lots of apples and we have found a...

  • Red, white and moo; it's fair week

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 14, 2014

WAS TOASTY--As the work week began, we were feeling mighty warm, as temperatures were still up in the 80's Sunday evening and were up in the mid-90's on Monday so it was pretty miserable I thought. In West Valley, we were still very hot Monday evening with no relief from any wind, while down at the fairgrounds, the wind was blowing and it must have been 15 to 20 degrees cooler, so a big discrepancy in just a couple of miles. And then there was Tuesday morning, wow, what a thunder and lightning storm that was! I was very glad to see it end, as...
