Comets fly by Mules in district

The Naselle Comets knocked the Wahkiakum Mules out of the SW Washington Class 2B basketball tournament with a 69-39 win last Saturday.

The Comets led 24-7 after one quarter and 39-15 at halftime. The loss ended the Mules' season; the Comets stayed alive but lost 60-50 to the Adna Pirates Tuesday and were eliminated from the tournament.

Nathan Sultemeier led the scoring with 25 points for the Comets. Austin Burkhalter had 11, Connor Smith 10, Manny Lopez eight, Nick Hines five, Drew Macy and Gabe See two each and Ollie Baker one.

Chase Fritzie and Cody Olsen led the Mules with eight points apiece. Ty Bain and Bryce Hilzer each had four, Brad Pugh and Ryan Helms three each, and Troy Howard and Brett Chaput two each.

The game was the final game for Mule seniors Fritzie, Blake Anderson and Danny Helms.
