The Wahkiakum Mule football bounced back from its 51-6 loss to Morton/White Pass with a 41-7 win over the Toutle Lake Ducks last Friday night.

The win ended the regular season for the Mules; they finished with a 7-1 record in the Central League. They had already clinched second place; they'll host the winner of this Friday's Toutle Lake-Pe Ell football game on November 2 in a crossover game with a state playoff berth on the line.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Ducks caught the Mule pass defense in a blown coverage and took a 7-0 lead.

The Mules bounced back. Lars Blix connected with Austin Good for a 12-yard scoring pass at 6:02 of the second quarter. Peter Weiler kicked the conversion to tie the game 7-7. The Mules took the lead with 1:23 left in the first half when Blix hit Travis Wegdahl for a three-yard touchdown pass. Weiler's kick left the Mules ahead 14-7 at halftime.

The Mules opened the floodgate in the third quarter. Blix scored on a one-yard run at 8:43; and Wegdahl caught two touchdown passes, one a 59-yard play and the other 12 yards.

Mason Mackey capped the scoring at 820 of the fourth quarter on a 10-yard run.

The Mules rolled up 442 yards of offense, 262 on the ground and 180 in the air. The Ducks had 141 yards rushing and 64 yards passing for 205 total yards.

Good gained 150 yards on 11 carries and caught four passes for 60 yards and one touchdown. Weiler gained 55 yards, Mackey 46, and Blix eight. Wegdahl caught four passes for 91 yards and three touchdowns, and Mackey caught three for 29 yards. Blix completed 11 of 19 passes with no interceptions, 180 yards and four touchdowns.

"Good had a career night," Mule Coach Eric Hansen commented. "Wegdahl played very well, too.

"Other than the blown pass play, the defense played very well and kept them in check. Trystan Mendez came in at linebacker and was a force."

On defense, Good made 10 tackles and intercepted two passes. Wegdahl and Mendez each had eight tackles; Mitchell Dault made seven, and Bubba Calvert, Gunnar Blix and Dallas Peacock all had five tackles.
