Westend news:

Just a reminder that today, January 29, Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services will be involved in the annual count of homeless within our county, called Point in Time Count.

This is your chance to check out what resources are available to you or anyone you know who is without permanent housing. There are two locations offering information, services, enrollments, assistance and giveaways on the above date from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those locations are: Johnson House at 80 Division St. in Cathlamet and in the new West End Pantry located in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park (the old Rosburg School.)

For questions and more information please contact Terrie Howell at 360 795-8630.

This Saturday is the famous annual Crab and Oyster Feed from 6 p.m. to midnight and as always is sponsored by the American Legion Deep River Post #111. Tickets are $28 per person, if there are any available. If you are interested in only attending the dance (from 9 to midnight) the price is $5 per person.

For more information or to see if there are any available tickets please contact: Ken Elliot at 465-2274, Judith Emmick at 465-2680 or Dale Rose at 465-2234.

We are making a few changes in our lineup for our Free Friday Night movies. This week we will be starting early, at 5 p.m. Steve Ramsay will make home made pizza for sale, so come on up, have some dinner and enjoy an old favorite movie. The three hour show (one of the reasons for starting early) is an older World War II classic that many of our movie goers have requested. It is about the efforts of an Allied commando team to destroy a seemingly impregnable German fortress that threatens Allied naval ships in the Aegean Sea, and prevents 2,000 isolated British troops from being rescued. I’m sure lots of folks have seen this, but I am not one of them, so am looking forward to an evening of good food, good friends and good fun. Won’t you join us?

We always have an intermission in the middle of our films with our concession stand open with sodas, popcorn and candy available. Movies are much more impressive on our big screen with surround sound as well.

Just an early reminder that we are looking for interested vendors and individuals who would like to participate in a Community In-Door Super Sale in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park on March 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The proceeds from this fundraiser for the Center will be used for ongoing operating costs for the building and grounds. The cost for table space is just $10. Call 360-465-2740 for more information and to reserve your space.

Hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings can be purchased during sale hours in the cafeteria and will be provided by GRVC. Bake sale items will also be available for sale in the cafeteria and are provided by the Friendship Circle of the Grays River United Methodist Church. Naselle Massage Clinic will be part of the event as well with Bryon Parrino providing relief from stress and pain in his miraculous way.

The West End Food Pantry is open on Thursdays in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park on the north end of the building. Their hours are 1-5 p.m. This new addition to Johnson Park has been quite successful so far, reaching out to many families in our area.

You can drop off donations of non perishable foods, personal hygiene items at the center or monetary donations can be mailed to PO Box 55, Rosburg, WA 98643. They also have freezer and refrigerator space for some perishable foods. For more info contact Suzie Whalen, Shonda Ware or Linda Ramsay.
