Dennis Reid was sworn in to his second term at the Wahkiakum County PUD Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday morning by Counsel Tim Hanigan.

The Wahkiakum PUD Board of Commissioners met quickly on Tuesday morning for regular business.

The commissioners adopted a write off policy for old accounts that remained unpaid due to bankruptcy or death, or for other reasons. The new policy states that each year any account 10 years or older will be reviewed and written off. The policy is being put in place to simplify bookkeeping. It will not release a customer from a debt that is owed.

Because this was the first year to implement the new policy, the commissioners scrutinized and approved a long list of accounts, totaling more than $80,000, to be written off.

They also approved a resolution to adopt a memorandum of understanding with the Town of Cathlamet regarding the payment of the new intake for the town water system. The PUD's share of the payment is a little over $17,000.

General Manager Dave Tramblie gave an update on the Deep River intertie project.

"The Pacific PUD intends to begin installing 5,000 +/- feet of underground this spring, using a contractor for the conduit installation," Tramblie said. "I was happy to hear they were still on board and moving forward."

Tramblie reported that he had notified the Bonneville Power Administration of the PUD's intention to build the intertie with Pacific County. He also shared that an access road had been completed along Salme Road. The crew will begin stringing overhead conductor on the poles there in February or March.

In other news, Tramblie shared his thoughts about the recent weather's effect on the PUD.

"The cold weather has pushed our peak loads at our substations up considerably," Tramblie said. "Everything has maintained very well, I have a certain amount of comfort having that new transformer up there, it's balancing that load out pretty well."

Finally, he shared that there had been no reportable accidents for 2016.

"That's what we like to hear," Commissioner Dennis Reid said, "safety being the number one issue."

Last, Reid was sworn in to office for his second term.

The next PUD meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 3, at 8:30 a.m. in the PUD meeting room.
