Local artist featured at CAA spring show

The Columbian Artists Association will host its 43rd Annual Spring Show, May 10-23 at the Lower Columbia College Rose Center for the Arts in Longview. The show opens to the public on Friday, May 10, with a reception from 4-6 p.m. Gallery hours for the remainder of the show are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Artwork by amateurs and professional artists will be on display. The aim of the Columbian Artists is to promote fine art in the community by displaying as many artists’ works as possible. The Rose Center for the Arts provides a space with good lighting to showcase the talent in the area. All work is available for purchase.

Each year the association selects a member to be Featured Artist, allowing that artist to display and engage with visitors discussing their work. This year’s Featured Artist is Robert Stowe, a Cathlamet resident. He carves and paints a variety of subjects of which some are inspired by Native American art.

Artists 18 years or older who reside in Cowlitz, Clark, Wahkiakum, Lewis and Pacific counties in Washington, as well as Clatsop and Columbia counties in Oregon, are invited to enter. Artists wishing to enter the show can submit their work at the gallery on Tuesday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A prospectus and entry form with details for entering are available by calling Irene at (360) 575-9751, John at (360) 261-7652 or Nancy at (360) 225-6118. The forms and prospectus are also available at the Broadway Gallery, 1417 Commerce Ave., Longview, at the LCC Art Gallery or online through their website at http://columbianartists.org.
