Sheriff's Report, February 18, 2021

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

February 7 — 3:22 p.m. A child accidentally dialed 911. 7:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who may have had a stroke.

February 8 — 6:47 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who had fallen four days earlier and was now having chest pain. 8:03 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having chest pain and numbness in her lips and one arm. 12:07 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported ID theft and fraud. 2:34 p.m. Adult Protective Services referred the sheriff’s department to a Puget Island home after a report of mental abuse and financial exploitation. 6:23 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was spitting up blood and had a history of throat cancer. 7:36 p.m. A Puget Island resident said he had heard from a third party that his wife had stolen his Jeep. It was believed to be a civil matter. 10:24 p.m. A person drove to the courthouse to deliver a box. She was frightened and did not know what was in the box. A deputy secured the item, and determined it was evidence in an ongoing investigation.

February 9 — 6:49 a.m. A caller reported a vehicle in a ditch along SR 4 just west of Nassa Point. Deputies, the Cathlamet ambulance, and the District 4 Fire Department responded. There were no injuries reported. 9:53 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a possibly depressed Rosedale resident. 10:47 a.m. A bike was found at Vista Park. 11:31 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fainted and hit his head. The individual refused transport to the hospital. 11:56 a.m. A caller reported that a man was lying on the side of SR 4 in the Rosburg area. At 12:04 p.m., the caller said the man had gotten up and was stumbling toward the Rosburg Store. A deputy, state patrol, and the Grays River ambulance responded. 12:11 p.m. A caller reported that log trucks were speeding up and down Barr Road. 12:50 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a clinic patient who may have had a stroke to the hospital. 3:57 p.m. A caller reported that someone had been getting into her car, which was locked and parked on a Cathlamet street, the last two nights. She thought it might be an ex-boyfriend, who was the subject of a restraining order. She thought she might have heard his voice outside her door. A deputy checked the vehicle multiple times during the night. 4:37 p.m. A caller reported that a small child had been found on a Rosedale road, and that two teens and a woman were knocking on doors to try to find her home. 6:05 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a possible homeless man in downtown Cathlamet. He was taken to a local warming shelter. 7:18 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check for a woman who was walking down West Little Island Road. She was not dressed for the weather and seemed spaced out, the caller said. A deputy made contact; the woman was walking home. 8:12 p.m. A boat trailer without plates had been left at Vista Park. It would be towed if it was still there the next morning.

February 10 — 8:04 a.m. A deputy and a representative from the mental health department responded after a Rosedale resident threatened to harm herself. 10:38 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported ongoing harassment. 10:48 a.m. A caller reported a fender bender after hitting another vehicle on a Cathlamet street. A deputy responded. 11:20 a.m. A deputy assisted after an individual in Cathlamet got locked out of her car. 3:21 p.m. A 911 call was abandoned. The call was traced to the high school parking lot. A deputy responded. He drove through the parking lot and spoke to the superintendent. Everything seemed to be okay. 7:06 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was vomiting and had high blood pressure and chest pain. 9:33 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had been parked on a Deep River logging road and he could hear people yelling.

February 11 — 1:04 a.m. A caller reported a drunk driver at Nassa Point. The caller said he had been driving the wrong way. A second caller said the driver had told him he was on medications and had been drinking. The driver was seen pointed eastbound in the westbound ditch before getting out and driving off. He was also seen parked in the westbound lane, facing east. State patrol and authorities in Cowlitz County were notified. The driver was stopped in Cowlitz County. 5:59 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance assisted a Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 10:06 a.m. A caller reported a stolen trailer. 10:27 a.m. A Little Cape Horn resident reported that he had found his shop door open and several items missing. 2:05 p.m. A caller found marijuana and alcohol on a Wahkiakum High School student. 2:30 p.m. A caller said that a neighbor had trapped a cat and taken it to Kelso. 2:41 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that two-five gallon fuel cans had been stolen some time in the last six weeks. 4:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident. 6:02 p.m. A caller reported seeing an eastbound black truck on SR 4 traveling without headlights and heavy front end damage. 7:21 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a suspicious man had come into his garage and knocked on his back door. The man left in an old Ford. A deputy responded but did not find an individual in the area matching the description.

February 12 — 11:34 a.m. A Cathlamet resident said that a neighbor would not let her enter a gate to go home. A deputy spoke with the caller, but the other person had left the scene. He would attempt to contact the other person later. 1:25 p.m. A caller reported a one vehicle accident on SR 4 just east of Cathlamet. One person was injured. A deputy, the Cathlamet ambulance, state patrol, and the District 4 Fire Department responded. 1:45 p.m. A one vehicle accident was reported on SR 4 near the bottom of Abe Creek Hill. A deputy, the District 4 Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. 3:12 p.m. A caller reported that the drivers of two vehicles were doing cookies on Steamboat Slough Road near Hornstra Beach. 5:39 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with abdominal pain. 6:27 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a power outage. The PUD was notified. 7:01 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Puget Island resident after dispatch from Astoria said a caller told them her child had been playing with a phone and dialed 911. 8:33 p.m. A caller reported an earlier assault and possible restraining order violations. 10:13 p.m. A caller reported that three trees were down on Altoona/Pillar Rock Road. He said he had cut through them so that someone could pass, but they were still a hazard. The county road department was notified. 10:39 a.m. A caller reported a rape that happened in 2019. 11:10 p.m. A Deep River resident reported a power outage.

February 13 — 7:41 a.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle at the marina. A deputy responded. 8:27 a.m. A woman in Deep River reported that her partner had thrown her to the ground and put a knee in her chest before locking her out of the house. There were multiple weapons at the home. Deputies responded and an individual was taken into custody. The Grays River ambulance responded after a deputy reported that the caller may have a concussion. She refused transport to the hospital. 8:57 a.m. A mother notified the sheriff’s office that she and the other parent would be unable to meet to exchange their children at the scheduled time because of the weather. The father stopped by the sheriff’s office to confirm the matter and said that the exchange would happen the following day. 10:07 a.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking North Hull Creek Road. 11:22 a.m. A Grays River resident reported a chimney fire. The Grays River Fire Department responded. 11:31 a.m. A caller reported that his car was stuck on a Cathlamet street. He said the road department knew about it and that he was contemplating calling a tow truck. 12:13 p.m. Because of road conditions, the Grays River ambulance and the Grays River Fire Department assisted Pacific County with a call to a home on Bighill Road. Pacific County was able to gain access to the home, and Grays River departments returned to their station. 12:33 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident who was on oxygen. A deputy spoke with the resident who said he was okay and had everything he needed. 3:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Puget Island resident. 3:21 p.m. A caller reported that a large truck was blocking both lanes of an Elochoman Valley road. 4:16 p.m. Dispatch was notified that CenturyLink was down in the Cathlamet area. 5:03 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that his chimney had fallen over and there was a fire in the fireplace. The Skamokawa Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire in the fireplace and told the owner not to use it. 6:08 p.m. East county residents reported a power outage. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 7:18 p.m. A caller reported that there was a vehicle in a ditch along SR 4 about three miles west of County Line Park. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. 8:54 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver in the Cathlamet area.

February 14 — 8:57 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident after no one was able to make contact with the individual. A deputy responded. The resident was fine, but her phone wasn’t working because of a power issue and connection issues with CenturyLink. 10:32 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident. A deputy was able to make contact. The resident was well. 12:24 p.m. A caller reported a chimney fire at a Deep River home. The Grays River Fire Department responded. The caller called back and said that the fire was out and he didn’t want the fire department to come to the home. Someone checked on the home anyway, but the homeowner refused assistance. 12:42 p.m. A caller reported that someone with canoes and dog cages on the back of his truck was dropping off hunters and dogs at the refuge. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. 12:55 p.m. Dispatch received a call from someone in Rosburg who said something about a vehicle being broken into, but there was a bad connection, and dispatch couldn’t understand the rest of what was being said. Dispatch contacted Clatsop County who said it sounded like the caller found a vehicle on his property and didn’t know if the owners were trespassing. State patrol responded.
