The Naselle-Grays River Valley School Board met Tuesday.

In personnel matters, the board acknowledged the resignations of teachers Brian Macy, Wendy Macy, and Kathryn Green. AJ Smith resigned his middle school football position to focus on his role as athletic director. Merlyn Cerkan, secretary, will also resign at the end of summer school at the Naselle Youth Camp.

In other matters of business, the board approved a variety of student support contracts with ESD 112 for the 2021-22 school year, and the contracts of non-represented employees. The board also approved the purchase of a new school bus. A 2003 school bus was declared as surplus by the board.

Principal Justin Laine gave an overview of the graduation ceremony, which saw 20 students graduate on June 11 in an in-person ceremony.

Laine commended the efforts of teacher Nathan Bruce who recently took a group of students to the Amazon headquarters to learn more about the computer science industry. Laine also praised the efforts of the boys’ basketball coaches and players, who recently won the district championship. He thanked the class advisors for their efforts with graduation and end of year class trips.

The next board meeting is scheduled for July 20 at 6:30 p.m. A special budget hearing, beginning at 5 p.m., will precede the regular board meeting.
