Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) learned Tuesday that contractor crews are scheduled to start the resurfacing work on Monday.

The contractor will start at Skamokawa and work eastward to Coal Creek Road intersection near Longview, placing a chip seal surface and making other improvements along the 25-mile route.

Travelers will see signs installed first, followed by pavement repairs.

"Things are dynamic in construction, and timing and order of work might shift depending on site conditions and material availability," said WSDOT communications officer Kelly Hanahan in an email. "The majority of paving will occur during the day, with occasional nighttime work."

Travelers will experience intermittent single lane closures and delays of up to 20 minutes during construction.

The department has planned other improvements in the Cathlamet area, including crosswalks with warning lights, but that work won't be scheduled until materials are available, Hanahan said.

The department earlier announced that the speed limit in the Cathlamet area will be reduced to 35 miles per hour.

Hanahan urged motorists to go slowly through work zones, both for safety of workers and to prevent damage to vehicles from rocks thrown by tires.
