Sheriff's Report, April 20, 2023

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

April 10 — 6:39 a.m. A caller reported high water on Eden Valley Road. 8:05 a.m. A caller said there was water over Wirkkala Road. 12:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was lethargic and not fully responsive. 1:21 p.m. A caller said there were several football sized rocks on SR 4 between Rosedale and Nassa Point. 5:34 p.m. A caller complained that two or more dogs left in a outdoor pen on an Elochoman Valley property were barking all day. The owner was notified; he said he would check on the animals. 5:52 p.m. A Puget Island resident claimed that a person known to him broke into his home and destroyed his computers. He also said that computer items were installed without his knowledge, and that the subject was a master of picking locks and would sneak into his residence without leaving footprints to rearrange items and papers. The caller said he needed help and threatened violence. 7:40 p.m. An Alger Creek resident said two men were at the door asking for a ride to Cathlamet. 8 p.m. A caller asked for assistance with a disabled vehicle. 9:37 p.m. A dog was found in Cathlamet. The Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group was contacted.

April 11 — 8:36 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was having respiratory issues. 8:46 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a clinic patient with respiratory issues to the hospital. 3:19 p.m. An east county resident had a gash on his head after hitting it on a rock wall in a fall. The caller said he was down a slight hill and could not be seen from the road. The Cathlamet ambulance responded. 5:55 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported harassment, saying that he was getting repeated phone calls from a family member. 6:53 p.m. A caller reported three elk with possible hoof rot on a Rosedale property. 9:33 p.m. A caller said she was followed all the way from Longview by someone in a Suburban with his high beams on. She said the person circled the block several times after she stopped. A deputy responded and said the driver was a local business owner with no known association to the caller.

April 12 — 1:03 p.m. A caller said that a boat was left on a Rosburg road, partially obstructing traffic. 6:03 p.m. A caller complained about traffic caused by the ferry running full time while the Lewis and Clark bridge was closed for emergency repairs, and suggest that people park on West Sunny Sands to wait for the ferry instead of SR 409. The bridge reopened the following day at 8:19 a.m.

April 13 — 2:35 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was having trouble breathing and a possible staph infection. 4:59 p.m. A caller reported a possible stolen vehicle at a Puget Island address. 8:13 p.m. A caller reported that a person who was on probation was at a bar in Cathlamet playing pool and drinking. A deputy responded.

April 14 — 2:01 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who fell. 10 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported harassment. 11:19 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check for a family member on Puget Island. 2:31 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Skamokawa address after a medical alarm was activated. 3:41 p.m. An Alger Creek resident reported that a tax return was filed fraudulently in his name. 5:38 p.m. A caller at the hospital in Longview said a woman had been abandoned and family members, who said they were going to get a car to take her home, had not returned and were not answering phones. The sheriff’s office was asked to see if the family was at a home in the Elochoman Valley. Another call came at 6:10 p.m. reporting that the family returned to the hospital. 6:41 p.m. A caller reported that someone lost of bunch of water bottles from their vehicle on SR 4 west of Skamokawa and that they were on the roadway, slowing traffic. A deputy responded and found the roadway cleared and all the debris on the shoulder. 7:53 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 9:23 p.m. Firearms were removed from a Puget Island home.

April 15 — 12:29 p.m. A caller reported seeing an open door at a home on Greenwood Road for three days. A deputy spoke with the resident. 3:20 p.m. A medical alarm was activated at a Puget Island home. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. It turned out to be a false alarm.

April 16 — 12:50 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked in the Glen Gate area for several days. He said that he had spoken to neighbors and no one knew who it belonged to. 2:22 p.m. Marina Estate residents reported hearing a loud bang before the power went out. The Cathlamet Fire Department and a deputy responded. The PUD was notified. A deputy believed it may have been caused by a falling tree. 3:55 p.m. Two vehicles were in a ditch after a motor vehicle accident on SR 4 in the Deep River area. A caller said one of the passengers was having a seizure. Another was complaining of ankle pain. A deputy, state patrol, the Grays River Fire Department, and the Grays River ambulance responded. 4:45 p.m. A driver was stopped for having two juveniles in a towed vehicle that did not have doors or seatbelts. 5:23 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 7:08 p.m. A caller asked for a ride home. When asked if his mom could give him a ride home, he said no. When he learned that a deputy was responding to another call, he asked dispatch to call his mother. Dispatch left a voicemail. 7:13 p.m. An east county resident reported trespassing. 7:25 p.m. A driver attempted to elude a deputy, who pursued. Pursuit was canceled a minute later.
