On June 14, there will be a flurry of activity in Cathlamet to celebrate Flag Day and Julia Butler Hansen's 116th birthday.

From 11:30 to 12:30 p.m., David Hansen, the son of Julia Butler Hansen, will open his childhood home for tours, and the Woman's Club will recognize their Citizen of the Year, Diane Hollenbeck, with an annual planting of a rose in the late congresswoman's rose garden.

Washington State Chief Historian John C. Hughes and author of Julia Butler Hansen: A Trailblazing Washington Politician will provide comments for the Rose Ceremony and tours, and later at the Pioneer Center, from 1:45 to 3 p.m., will hold a book signing and share stories about Wahkiakum's most famous citizen in "Julia, Her Life and Legacy."

At 1 p.m., a Color Guard will have a flag raising ceremony at the Cathlamet Library, with birthday cake and refreshments following on the first floor of the Pioneer Center from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Cathlamet Woman's Club, the Town of Cathlamet, the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce, the Pioneer Community Association, and David Hansen.
