CenturyLink outage was inconvenient

Last Thursday and Friday, a CenturyLink internet outage inconvenienced residential and business customers in Wahkiakum County, including at least two local businesses in Cathlamet, the post office and The Wahkiakum County Eagle.

It was cash only at the post office, and if you wanted to send something overseas, it would have to wait. On the other hand, for customers checking for updates on package arrivals, the alert would not be coming. They were just going to have to check their mail and find out.

Fortunately at The Eagle office, it wasn’t in the middle of paper production, but the constant flow of email was halted, bills couldn’t be paid, and ads couldn’t be built.

“A fiber cut last week in Longview, WA may have impacted the Cathlamet, WA area as well,” Tracey Conway said. Conway is a digital media lead for Lumen, which owns CenturyLink.
