David C. Spooner 83, of Cathlamet, died August 25, 2023 in Longview. Dave was born August 20, 1940 in Tacoma to Andrew and Margaret Spooner. Dave grew up in Clatskanie and Portland, Oregon before entering the Airforce at age 19. After leaving the military in 1963, he was a musician, playing the saxophone in many clubs and lounges with several bands in the Portland area.

In 1967 he married Gladys Wegdahl Wright and moved to Cathlamet. He worked briefly at Tollycraft and Brusco Corp before joining Crown Zellerbach from 1972 to 1985. After that time he was a self employed carpenter until his retirement in 2002.

He enjoyed model airplane flying as a young man and won a West Coast championship at age 21.

He is survived by a daughter Kristine Sudar, a sister, Linda Niemeyer, nine grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his wife Gladys and three stepsons, Mark, Alan and Grant Wright. A private family cryptside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery. A celebration of Dave's life is pending at a later date. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
