The summer reading program concluded last week with an 80th Birthday party for Smokey Bear attended by more than forty community members. The Collaborative Summer Reading program was supported by the generous donation of time by several short-term volunteers including community elders, teens, and parents. The library is so grateful for the time and talents our many volunteer staff members, past and present, bring to our community as they serve. The library could not function without you. The library welcomes any amount of time, energy, or talent our busy community members can bring. If you have a little time to spare, your library can find a task or mission to apply it. Please stop by to pick up an application; we look forward to meeting you!
Your library is open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, Except next week.
The library will be closed from Sunday, Aug. 11 through Monday, Aug. 20.
We will be at the Wahkiakum County Fair for the first time ever to meet the community, talk about future programming, recruit new patrons, and listen to your hopes, dreams, and wishes for the future of your library. We will not be able to bring enough books with us for everyone so you will have to stock up before Saturday.
While the library is closed, the building will be getting some much-needed attention, courtesy of Hilton Painting and Nordic Construction who will be painting the building and making repairs. During this closure, the carpets will be cleaned and the landscaping will get some trimming and cleaning. You will not be able to check out books during this time but the book drop will still be available for returns.
I wish I had more words to express how grateful I am to all of you who show up to support your library. It seems to be the one thing most everyone in town agrees on. In a time when anxieties are running high and tolerances run low, libraries and librarians are under attack across our country, but not in Cathlamet. We thank our community because at the end of the day, libraries are not about books, libraries are about we the people.
