Sheriff's Report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:

August 9 5:00 p.m. A Cathlamet caller reported a person walking on a local street yelling. Deputies responded but found no criminal activity.

August 10 9:38 a.m. A Puget Island caller reported seeing smoke from an unknown source.

9:50 a.m. An east county resident called in

to report propane smell in the area. Deputies

were unable to find the source of the smell.

The district 4 fire department was notified.

9:51 a.m. A welfare check was requested of

an elderly Cathlamet resident. 1:20 p.m. An

abandoned vehicle was reported in the Skamokawa area. 6:32 p.m. An accidental 911 call

was initiated by a smart watch in the wildlife

refuge. 9:45 p.m. A Puget Island homeowner

reported circumstances that indicated that

someone was trying to break into their motorhome.

August 11 6:09 p.m. A motorist on SR4 in

Deep River said that a vehicle passed them

and indicated their displeasure with a hand

gesture. The caller called dispatch again to

report the motorist driving by their home and

revving their engine.

August 12 5:30 a.m. A log truck was reported

driving erratically on SR4 in Cathlamet. 4:09

p.m. A wallet was found in the Elochoman

valley. Deputies called the owner to let them

know it had been found. 5:30 p.m. A Cathlamet caller reported seeing black smoke in

their neighborhood. The Cathlamet fire department responded and found a person burning Styrofoam in a barrel. Sheriff’s deputies

were asked to check that the fire was extinguished.

August 13 12:28 a.m. Cathlamet emergency

services responded to an elderly person with

a nose bleed that would not stop. 10:51 a.m. A

Cathlamet reported a dead deer in their backyard. 12:06 p.m. A Puget Island homeowner

reported fraudulent and threatening emails

saying that they represented the sheriff 's office, demanding bitcoin. The caller said that

they had sent them an email with a picture of

their house. 5:14 p.m. A caller reported finding two bicycles at Erickson Park. Sheriff’s

deputies came and picked up the bikes.

August 14 11:56 p.m. An erratic driver was

reported on SR4 in Skamokawa. 4:10 p.m.

A large hound type dog was found near the

county fairgrounds in Skamokawa.

August 15 10:35 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to an elderly person who was

ill. 1:50 p.m. a resident of Cathlamet reported a sewer trap near their house overflowing.

2:54 p.m. A dead deer was reported on the

side of the road west of Cathlamet.
