Clatskanie wins pair of low-scoring affairs

Following the rainout of its April 8 game at St. Paul, the Clatskanie girls softball team returned home Saturday, April 12 to take on Warrenton. Scoring a run in the bottom of both the third and sixth innings, the girls were able to hold off the Warriors 2-1. Clatskanie was led at the plate by Senior Karielle Carlson and sophomore Olivia George, who had an RBI each. In fact, Carlson and George scored Clatskanie's only two runs, accounting for practically all of the team's offense. Juniors Kennedy Johnson and Joey Sizemore, as well as sophomores Emma Parmley and McKinsey Doyle had one hit apiece for the Tigers in the one-run victory.

The girls traveled to Drain Monday, April 14 to take on North Douglas. Clatskanie took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on another two in the third. North Douglas cut the lead in half in the fourth with a run, but Clatskanie responded with another three runs to make the score 6-1. In the final inning, North Douglas could only come up with a single run, resulting in the 6-2 final. The Tigers were led at the plate by Parmley, who had two RBI. Sophomore Adalyn Wemmer led the Tigers in runs with two, and Sizemore and George knocked in the other two runs for Clatskanie.

Clatskanie continued on its winning ways Tuesday, April 15, against Regis. The Tigers scored twice in the first inning, but Regis countered with two runs of its own in the second inning and another in the third to take a 3-2 lead, but that would be all the offense the Rams would produce. Scoring 11 unanswered runs over the next four innings, including five in the sixth frame, Clatskanie finished off Regis 13-3 via the mercy-run rule. Sizemore led the team in RBI with five, runs scored with three and, along with Parmley, hits as the duo had three apiece. Junior Kayden Bryum knocked in three runs on two hits, and Carlson and Wemmer added an RBI each. Johnson, Doyle, and juniors Kyrielle White and Dalilah also scored a run each in the victory for the Tigers.

The Tigers (9-3) travel to Naselle (WA) Thursday to take on the Comets in a non-league game at 4:30 p.m. The team will return home Tuesday, April 22, to take on Nestucca at 4:30 p.m.
