The school year is ending and summer is around the corner. I know parents don't want to hear, "There's nothing to do," or, "I'm bored." Clatskanie is filled with many fun events that will fill your summer with entertainment. Since it's summer and the sun is out, the Clatskanie City Pool is a fun, refreshing place to spend time. There are six swim lesson levels that are 45 minutes long and 30 minute classes for babies. Open swim is from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. What would summer be without sports? The Clatskanie Community Church has put together an Ambassador Soccer Camp from July 8-11. Every day is filled with fun. There will be games, music, coach testimonies, lunches provided, and so much more. Every day, a different soccer skill will be worked on with games to put that skill into practice. For those who love crafting and expressing with art, Dandelion Wishes has set aside time for crafting every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a different craft every Saturday. The cost varies depending on what the craft is, but it is usually kept to around $5. Art By Twi is another place to craft. The 4th of July is a time to celebrate our community, but it is also a time to celebrate our freedoms and get together with others. Clatskanie Heritage Days is filled with different events. Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Heritage Days Car Show is taking place at City Park. The event is free to attend. If you have a car you would like to enter, make sure to register it for $20 that day. Registration is open the morning of June 28. The 4th of July parade begins at 11 a.m. at the Elementary and Middle/High School going down Nehalem Street and ending at the City Park. Heritage Days doesn't just stop there. Later that night, fireworks will be set off in the City Park at dusk.
Salmon and BBQ is a splendid way to spend an afternoon. Mayger Downing Community Church is holding a salmon BBQ potluck on Saturday, July 19 at around noon. A history of Mayger slideshow will be playing on repeat inside the church. Since it is a potluck, you can bring food, snacks, salmon, etc. You can bring fancy, old cars because a small car show will also be held at Mayger during the BBQ. Make sure you don't miss out on the fun.
Did someone say "free lunch?” The Clatskanie Free Lunch Program is giving free lunch for students in the school district. Lunch has milk, vegetables, fruit, grains, and meat. The meals will be given out at the grade school and high school.
The Clatskanie Library loves to have events for children. They have many fun things planned for the summer. You can visit their Facebook page or the library to get a calendar they make with the events on it.
The Clatskanie Festival is being held August 8-10 in City Park. A schedule of events will be placed around town as the festival draws closer. There will be music, free vendor spaces, food, games and even a free cake walk. A light parade will be going down Nehalem Street during the night on Saturday, August 9. Skateboard competitions and free lessons will be available at the skate park. To find out more about the festival, call 360-431-7910. Learning to dance is very fun to do.
