Tsuga Gallery presents featured artist for the month of August: Kenny Evans. Kenny grew up in the Pacific Northwest where he was surrounded by trees and tidewater. His childhood was shaped by driftwood forts, foggy mornings, and walks through ancient forests that felt older than time. The raw, untamed beauty imprinted on him a longing to create and tell stories with his hands. In his younger years, Kenny never thought of himself as an artist, but he could never stop making things. Even as a child, he was always shaping mud or carving lines into wood. Later in life, he studied art at several different colleges and under the mentorship of other artists. He says there's something sacred about working with his hands. Art gives him feelings for which he has no words like grief, wonder, joy, and the ache of beauty. His favorite form of art is that which feels alive, like sculpture, pottery, and anything with texture.
Kenny has spent several decades working with pottery. He also likes to make rubber stamps from erasers and does large collages as large as a sheet of plywood. Kenny is the pastor at The Bridge Church on Puget Island. His faith flows into his art with values of intentional craftsmanship, the beauty of the ordinary, and the sacred work of forming something from dust. Kenny has hiked the entire Appalachian Trail, which gave him an even deeper appreciation for the way art, nature, and weave together. Kenny resides here in Cathlamet with his wife, dog, and three kids. He loves a strong cup of coffee and is known to experiment with flavor and fire in the kitchen. Stop by Tsuga Gallery and check out Kenny's unique artwork.
