Just two days after nearly doubling up on Vernonia, the Clatskanie High School girls basketball team fell just short on the road against Nestucca. Jumping out to a 10-4 lead to enter the second quarter, the Tigers held a 16-12 lead at halftime. The Bobcats regained the lead to end the third quarter and outscored the Tigers 15-14 in the final frame to secure that 43-41 victory. Clatskanie was led in scoring by junior Olivia George, who had 23 points on 8 for 18 shooting from the field. Senior Joey Sizemore led the team in rebounds with 11, assists with seven, and blocks with three. Sizemore added eight points as well, missing out on a double-double by two points. Senior Mya Jensen led the team with three steals, while junior Lacey Willis had 10 rebounds, scored six points, and grabbed two steals.
The girls rebounded from their loss last Friday, Jan. 16, with a 37-32 victory over Aloha's Faith Bible Christian. Leading by two points going into halftime, the Tigers outscored Faith Bible Christian 8-5 in the third quarter and, though being outscored by a point in the final frame, ended up hanging on for the 37-32 victory. Sizemore led the girls in scoring with 15 points, rebounds with 14, and assists with five. Leading the team once again in steals with four, Jensen added seven points on 3 for 11 shooting from the field. Scoring 10 points, Willis came one rebound shy of a double-double.
