NIPPY--We woke up Sunday morning to temperatures below freezing so it was definitely a reminder that one needs an extra blanket on their bed and to put on some warmer apparel when they go outside! The rest of the week is looking mighty wet, so we can't forget our rubber boots, umbrellas and rain coats either! I just hope we don't have more slides or flooding at this busy time of year. WET ENOUGH?--This last weekend of November has definitely been a wet one, as once again we've had inches of rain per day and the creeks and streams have risen and our fields are more like lakes again. By the time you read this on Thursday, it's supposed to be dry for a couple of days so I certainly hope that's true as we've all got things to do and places to go in order to get ready for the holidays. NICE BREAK--As I begin this column, we are having a nice break from the rain. While it was so foggy in West Valley on Sunday morning that it blocked our television reception for a bit. It did clear up and warmed up some and wound up to be a pretty decent day. However, by the time I went to bed, we had gotten down to freezing again, so I hope you've had those faucets covered and your plants inside. NOT NICE--As all the flooded fields and roadways, rock slides, fallen trees and outages can attest to, it was not nice out there this past week! As always, flooded fields and roadways weren't too bad in some areas, while other spots were really bad, so if one needed to be out and about, then you needed to be driving with extreme care. Our neighbors had a close call with a tree that came down off the "rock wall" just west of Skamokawa, so those trees that fall with no warning are really a hazard and a reminder that all this wonderful greenery...
NOT TOO NICE--As this week begins, we've got thunder and downpours and some wind. Saturday had us dodging large hailstones off and on in West Valley, in between the heavy rain showers and a few sun breaks, so depending on where you were and when, you were either enjoying a little outdoor time, or you were hiding inside. NICE ENDING--I was so happy to have the last weekend of October turn out to be a really nice one, as so often our Halloween events and our little trick or treaters wind up sloshing through the puddles and having to cover their costumes with rain jackets, but not this year; yippee! VEHICLE CHECK--We went through a lot of road work around here this past summer. Many folks were dealing with chipped or broken windshields, but those kinds of issues are readily seen and most likely taken care of rather quickly. What some don't see are the running lights, brake or signal lights or headlights that may have gotten dinged by some of those flying rocks. I have seen multiple vehicles lately that have lights that are no longer working, so with more hours of our day being dark, it would be wise of us to do a "walk around" our...
WET BEGINNING--As I begin this column, it's a very drippy Sunday morning. However, we all know how quickly these forecasts can change. The "mostly dry" week has now changed and so there's only a couple of dry looking days in the current weather forecast. We'll see how that turns out. With a little luck those wet days will turn into mostly dry days but I guess we'll have to wait and see. BURN BAN WAS LIFTED--The burn ban in our area has been lifted, so all the tree branch burners were happy to be rid of their piles of brush this past weekend....

WILD ONE--This past weekend had us listening to rolling thunder, accompanied by some flashy lightning and we saw and heard some very heavy rains, along with howling winds! I was happy that we didn't lose power throughout the nastiest part of this event, but we did lose it for about an hour during a calm period on Sunday evening, which seemed weird. While I certainly wasn't expecting it to happen during the calmest part of the day, at least I was prepared for it. CHANGING--After a warm and sunny weekend, with just a bit of mist Sunday morning, it looks like we may be in for some real weather changes for the weekend. COOLER--We have started out this week with some morning drizzle, which was nice to settle the dust for a bit and give the leaf feeding plants a little moisture, so that was great.However, it's usually back to dryness by noon and depending on where you were, it was either "mostly cloudy" or "mostly sunny" as we all know that the weather from Skamokawa to Cathlamet can be completely different on any given day! COOLER/WET?--According to the forecast, we may actually see some showers this week but as of Monday morning, it was just cloudy, but drizzle Tuesday morning was a possibility. We'll also have to wait and see if the Friday forecast for 30 percent chance of drizzle comes true, and considering it's Fair time, well, we almost expect it! DAMPNESS/HEAT--As this new week begins, we are enjoying a mild, dry day after a pretty good soaking on Saturday. Here in West Valley, it was a nice steady mist which lasted most of the day and I was very thankful for that. STILL DRY--While we have had some morning clouds and it's been cooler in our area, compared to the areas east of us, it's still plenty dry out there, so I can only hope that the forecast for showers at the end of this week, actually materialize. STILL DRY--While Germany, Belgium and other countries are getting hammered by massive amounts of rain, and even our southern states are getting wet, most of us around our area are staying pretty doggone dry. COOLER--I don't know about you but these cloudy mornings, with sunny afternoons and more moderate temperatures, like in the 70s, is just right for me! I think the plants enjoyed a break from the intense heat as well, as there were many trees and shrubs showing a lot of burned areas on them, along with the curling, dead leaves on other plants.
