June 28, 2007 Wahkiakum County commissioners on Tuesday gave their approval to the shoreline permit needed for replacement of the Puget Island ferry ramp. The permit application will not go out for review by the state Department of Ecology. The county hopes to be able to go to bid this year with construction to occur this winter. June 28, 2007 "No LNG on the Columbia River" is the focus of a free public workshop being held July 2 at 7:15 p.m. at the Cannery Pier Hotel in Astoria. The main topic will be the July 10 hearing by the Clatsop County Planning Commission concerning the proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Bradwood. Refreshments will be served. June 28, 2007 Cathlamet student Lainie Ferguson has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum. Ferguson will join a select group of students in Washington, D.C. in April 2008 to earn high school credit while studying leadership and exploring some of the United State's most prominent monuments and institutions. June 28, 2007 The historic Deep River Church will have another series of summer events beginning on July 8 with the Finn Fest Community Choir from Naselle. Each summer the Wahkiakum Community Foundation sponsors events at the little "Church in the Wildwood" to raise funds for maintaining the building, listed on the National Historic Register. While not an active church with a congregation, it is a popular spot for weddings and special events. Chairman of the Board Leigh O'Malley hosted the event and spoke of the great contribution to the community that Carver has made.
