The Cathlamet Community Center, located at 101 Main St., will host a free seed exchange on Wednesday, March 15, from 11 a.m., to 1 p.m. The event is sponsored by the WSU Master Gardeners, the Cathlamet Community Center, Skamokawa Grange, and the Wahkiakum Community Garden. Participants are invited to come to the Community Center with their seeds between 11 a.m., and 1 p.m., to exchange with other gardeners in the community. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Erval Gary Cooper, 77, passed away on February 16th, 2017 very unexpectedly in Vancouver, WA. He lived in Cathlamet, WA for 50 years. Stanley Everman was born on February 21, 1917. Raised in Rainier, Ore., he settled in Cathlamet, raised a family and operated a towboat business. On Sunday, he celebrated his 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family at the United Church of Christ in Cathlamet. According to his daughter-in-law Sandy Everman, Stanley had a great time at the party. He has been living in an assisted living facility in Longview since a fall last year. Wahkiakum county commissioners voted 2-1 Tuesday to proceed with the purchase of land for affordable housing and office development. The county's Department of Health and Human Services has been working for nearly two years to purchase the property from the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle. The purchase price is $123,353.08, plus closing costs, and will be paid from county funds raised specifically for housing assistance. MUCH DIFFERENT--This past weekend we saw some sunshine and much more pleasant conditions than the last one. No white stuff, yeah! It was nice to catch a break after all the snow and rain, which led to road closures and tons of trees coming down, so a huge relief there.
