Cathlamet's remodeled library building will have a color scheme known as Forest Green, Mayor George Wehrfritz announced Tuesday. Town officials developed three color schemes, Old Growth, Water Run and Sunrise, and conducted balloting at public events and large groups. "We had 377 valid ballots, and Old Growth came in with 179 and was the winner," Wehrfritz said. Water Run drew 110 votes, and Sunrise had 88. Wallace A. “Wally” Kaste went home to be with the Lord on August 21, 2013. Wally was born in the family’s Jahns Valley farmhouse in Alma, Wisc., on March 16, 1930 to Alfred and Elizabeth (Gobar) Kaste. Wally’s mother Elizabeth instilled in him a lifelong love of cows and people. She died when Wally was 13. In 1948 Wally graduated from Alma High School and joined the Army during the Korean War. Longtime Cathlamet resident Lois Arlene Sullivan died on July 13 at the hospice care facility in Longview. Lois was born on June 7, 1929 in Red Bluff, Calif. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Portland in 1947 and married her late husband Jack in 1965. Lois worked for Western Electric, a division of AT&T, in Portland and retired after 25 years there. She was an active member of the Cathlamet community.
