The Washington State Fairs Convention held in Yakima was a great place to share ideas with fair managers and fair board members. I spent three days attending fair workshops and meeting numerous talented entertainers and am bringing home stacks of information to share with our fair board. The end is in sight for the Wahkiakum County board of commissioners as they put together their preliminary budget for 2013. Commissioners held their final meetings with department heads and other parties with intersets in the budget process Tuesday. The Charlotte House Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Advisory Board hosted their 14th Annual Chocolate Extravaganza last Friday. This year, 30 volunteers offered their chocolate goodies to help raise funds for our program. Most of the 30 bakers are from Wahkiakum County, but there were treats coming from Cowlitz and Lewis Counties as well. Share a Sole to help kids in gym class J. A. Wendt Elementary School students are having a shoe drive, collecting used tennis shoes only, in good condition with either laces or velcro. The shoes collected will be washed and re-laced before given to students who do not have shoes required for playing in the gym. There will be a drop off barrel in the J.A. To The Eagle: Several years ago, our economic development gurus attempted to rescue our ailing golf course by slicing off a chunk of it to build golf-oriented condo units. Seemed impractical and our small course certainly didn't need an amputation, but we curmudgeons being neither golf nor economic development experts, the project proceeded. Gary John Garr, 71 of Cathlamet, left this world for the next on October15,2012 at OHSU in Portland,Ore. He was born in Billings Mont., on June 4,1941 to John M. and Ethel B. (Tenny) Garr . Bonnie Rae Sullivan, 81, of Cathlamet passed away September 15, 2012 at home. She was born September 3, 1931 in Marcus, to Dennis and Sue Sullivan. Bonnie graduated from Cleveland High School and later graduated from Washington State University. As a young woman she spent time in the Peace Corps. Charles LeRoy "Max" Wika was born on May 14, 1951 in Longview to LeRoy Wika and the late Norma Jean (Witham) Wika.
