Business concerning construction of Cathlamet's new waste water treatment plant kept members of the Cathlamet Town Council busy on Monday. The council started off its meeting with a tour of the plant site. Engineer Ken Alexander of Gray and Osborne, Inc. explained the process the new plant will use to treat sewage. Photographer returns for Redmen Hall show Redmen Hall will be featuring local photographer Nick Deal, who has won many awards in photography in Washington and Oregon, for their next exhibit. Deal exhibited at Redmen Hall last year and is returning for a one man exhibit. His work takes a unique view of the environment, concentrating on the architecture of negative and positive space. As we wrap up summer, I will review some of the events our Grange was part of. In addition, I will recognize key people who made these events a success. Grays River Grange hosted this year’s salmon dinner at the Finnish American Folk Festival in Naselle. Nearly 200 dinners were purchased. Visitors and friends attending the fair had a wonderful group of people to welcome them through our Wahkiakum County Fair gates. Our admission booths were staffed with some of the nicest people from our local area. I heard some comments back about being a ticket taker last August and they were all good! TRANSITION WEEKEND--Well, last week was pretty toasty around here as temperatures were up in the 90s last Friday. However, on the coast it was much cooler that day and we got some of their cloud cover the first half of Saturday. Carol G. Quigley, 91, of Cathlamet passed away at Hospice Care Center in Longview on September 7, 2012. Carol was born on November17,1920 to Robert and Agnes (Peterson) Burch in Astoria, Ore. She was a lifelong Wahkiakum resident. Carol graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1938 and married Frank Quigley that summer. She worked alongside Frank on the farm and driving logging trucks for their logging business. Wahkiakum PUD commissioners met September 5 to approve preliminary budgets for next year and to talk with Cathlamet council members about exploring a proposal to contract water meter reading, billing, and collections to the PUD. Pacific Crest Construction and its subcontractors are hard at work building a new waste water treatment plant for the town of Cathlamet. The $8 million plant will replace Cathlamet's sewer lagoon sewage treatment. The project is scheduled to be complted around the end of 2014.
