Longtime Cathlamet resident, Alvina M. Keilwitz-Armstrong, 84, passed away August 20, 2011 at Community Hospice in Longview. She was born September 15, 1926 in Chehalis to John and Clara (Klawitter) Ketchum. She moved to Longview at the age of 15 and attended R.A. Long High School. She married E. A. “Dock” Keilwitz and he preceded her in 1989. She married Walt Armstrong on June 7, 1997 in Cathlamet; he preceded her in 2009. The Cathlamet IGA Market has new store managers: Stephanie Crouse is store manager, and Andy Lea is assistant manager. Both are long time local residents. Crouse replaced Scott Merriman, who left to work in the St. Helens IGA, which is close to his home. Crouse has worked in the Cathlamet store since 2004. The Third Annual Cathlamet Downhill Corral, a series of internationally sanctioned longboard races, will take place this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Cathlamet. The longboard races are expected to bring 100 competitors to the area this weekend.
