The Wahkiakum Mules and other high school football teams start their seasons this Friday Night. The Mules will jump right into Central League play and host the Mossyrock Vikings. Sport fishing for spring chinook salmon will reopen this Saturday and Sunday (May 26-27) on the lower Columbia River below Bonneville Dam. Fishery managers from Washington and Oregon agreed to reopen the fishery for those two days to boat and bank anglers from Buoy 10 to Beacon Rock. Bank anglers will also be allowed to fish from Beacon Rock upriver to the deadline at Bonneville Dam. The daily limit is two adult hatchery salmon, two hatchery steelhead, or one of each. Track and field athletes from Naselle and Wahkiakum High Schools won district meet championships last Friday at Raymond. Naselle Comet Rob Baker won two; he claimed the long jump title with a mark of 20'4" and the 110m hurdle race in 15.61. Team mate Chandler Chapman cleared 6'2" to win the high jump title. Brieanna Olsen, Wahkiakum High School senior, may have just fueled those well-known boasts by signing a letter of intent to play college basketball next year. JC Thomas Warriors did not let soggy weather put a damper on their track meet. On April 25, the Warriors hosted a four team meet at the Wahkiakum High School track. The Wahkiakum Mule baseball team played host to the Adna Pirates Monday afternoon and suffered a pair of 10 run- five-inning defeats. The Pirates blanked the Mules 10-0 in the opener and took the nightcap by a tally of 15-4.
