April 20 at Adna: The Adna Pirates sailed in to their home port--Riverside Golf Course--in Chehalis and stole the league championship from the Wahkiakum Mules by six strokes 194-200. It was a close match from beginning to end as the Mules opened with their 1-2 kick as Brody Carlson carded the medalist round of 42 while Logan LaBerge tied with Pirate’s leader Braeden Salme at 44 for second place. Pirates number two player Andrew Grim came in with a 55, so the Mules had an early lead as the first few groups posted scores. That was pretty much the...

The travel weary Wahkiakum Mules golf team was in dire need of some home cooking and good weather, and they had it at their March 24 match at Skyline Golf Course. Conditions were perfect, 65 degrees with a soft breeze. The thought was the first group with Wahkiakum’s Logan LaBerge and Toutle Lake’s Zach Swanson would duke it out for first place. The battle ensued with LaBerge parring the first 4 holes and building a five stroke lead, not knowing that Wahkiakum’s number two player Kaleo Silva was staking his own claim by finishing second, shoot...

Completing the three-team match also was visiting North Beach, 229. The weather was a steady rain that resulted in casual water on the fairway, greens and in the sand bunkers. The Mules seemed to ignore the wet conditions, instead focusing on improving their four-man total of 172 posted at home on Tuesday...

The Wahkiakum Mules recaptured the District Championship Trophy for the first time since 2013 and for the 7th time since their inception in 2007. More importantly--for the first time since golf program power houses Ilwaco and Life Christian Academy have dropped down from Class 1A to Class 2B, a significant accomplishment for Mules’ golf. Returning state champion Blake Kukula of Ilwaco three-peated his district title, shooting 75 81 for a total 156. However Mule Tyler St. Onge shot 77 on day two to finish ahead of Kukula, another significant a...
