The Hatchery and Fishery Reform Policy was originally adopted in November, 2009, with a stated purpose to advance the conservation and recovery of wild salmon and steelhead by promoting and guiding the implementation of hatchery reform. The local Finnish American Folk Festival group from Naselle presented an event on Oct. 31 called the "Talking Tombstones"! This event was met with rave reviews by the presenters and the 95 visitors who came in small COVID friendly groups to hear them. Monologs were shared by each presenter describing the hardships, faith and endurance of each Finnish ancestor buried there. NICE WEEKEND--We ended October last Saturday and it was very nice and sunny during the daytime, albeit a bit nippy in the evenings, but that's okay, as at least it wasn't wet and nasty out, which made it much better for all those trick or treaters that were out and about on Saturday! BRRR--As this last week of October started, we woke up to a very cold, frosty white but clear morning on Sunday and it was just 27 degrees. I am thankful we had power because it would have been even colder in a hurry! I heard that some folks in Cathlamet and Puget Island wound up without any power for a bit that morning, so those folks who had alternative heat/power sources, were certainly glad they had that option. According to information from Librarian Carol Blix, Cathlamet Public Library is not able to accept donations of books or magazines at this time. Their storage room is full, since they are using part of it to quarantine returned materials. The Wahkiakum Lions Club honored Kaleo Silva as their September Student of The Month. Kaleo had the privilage of going to Portugal in 2017 and walked the Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage of 500 miles.
