In 2019, the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) received 349 reports of fireworks related incidents by hospitals, clinics, and fire agencies in Washington State. Of the 349 reports received, there were 269 injuries and 80 fires, according to information from Deputy State Fire Marshal Robert Wittenberg. Fireworks-related incidents most often occur on the Fourth of July, the information said. According to information received from the Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Council of Governments, Wahkiakum County is approaching the self-response rate it achieved during the 2010 Census and needs a final big push to surpass that goal. The county is currently sitting at 53.3 percent self response rate. Most, if not all, of Wahkiakum County residents should now have received at least one notice to respond to the Census. Amateur Radio Field Day is upon us again. It comes up every year on the fourth full weekend of June, when amateur radio operators test their emergency skills to make contact with as many other operators around the world as they can. The volunteers of the Summer Lunch program have completely blown me away. The outpour of folks willing to roll up their sleeves and make lunches for our kids is really something special. Our first week went great, and our numbers of meals are increasing. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this program, whether you donated money, helped secure emergency funds, donated food, donated time, organized, sanitized, made masks, or are physically making the food. Agricultural producers can now apply for USDA’s Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), which provides direct payments to offset impacts from the coronavirus pandemic.
