    Kay Chamberlain|Feb 23, 2023

GETTING PREPARED--As this week starts, it’s a drippy day in the 40s but according to forecasters, we are in for some very cold days, so I hope you were ready to bundle up and keep warm somehow. Whenever we see temperatures in the 20s forecast, that’s not a great deal for man nor beast and then throw in a chance of some snow and it could be a really miserable few days. Keeping my fingers crossed that the forecast changes and we are all a bit cooler but nothing too severe; one can always hope! It is still winter so I guess we shouldn’t be too s...

  • Downriver Dispatches

    Karen Bertroch|Feb 23, 2023

Newspapers: I highly value our Eagle newspaper. It is one of the few small-town papers still in existence. We have become a society that reads "electronic" news. This illustrates our addiction to being stimulated by instant news and constant information with no data, science or study beyond what we see and hear. Good things can happen on our devices, but we err when we believe only what a device tells us. Newspapers are meant to provide "investigative news," not unverified information....

  • Crab feed is on Puget Island on Saturday

    Kay Chamberlain|Feb 16, 2023

NOT SO NICE--As this week begins, it looks pretty nasty out there and if the forecasters are correct, we will get some snow as the temperatures fall. Fortunately, this is supposed to be a very brief snow event so I hope that’s correct. The rest of the week appears to be colder but drier according to most forecasters, so we’ll just have to wait and see how that plays out. I am a little bummed that the minute my “Snowdrops” bloom, it seems like we get snow and they get buried, but hopefully they will survive okay. If we do get some super cold we...

Commentary: I am a Texan at heart. It doesn't make me love this area less; it makes me appreciate it more. My favorite spot there is the Bussey family ranch in Weatherford, west of Ft. Worth. They are my foster family and I remember well when they bought that ranch which now has given joy to four generations so far. My husband's family was from Colorado, a place I learned to love in 1963 when I worked on a remote dude ranch out of Durango, Colorado. When I was first married, we lived in Gypsum,...
