Wahkiakum Helping Hand President Shane Skinner signed the lease for Erickson Park on October 7. Helping Hand, a nonprofit corporation, plans to place a portable building in a section of Erickson Park to serve as a food bank. SUPER NICE--What a difference a week makes, as this weekend we had absolutely gorgeous weather, compared to the soaking we had the week before, so it was really great. The night-time temperatures were in the low 40s in West Valley, with lots of fog in the morning hours, but the sunshine that followed made it all worthwhile. On September 14 the Tsuga Gallery hosted a one-day workshop on acrylic painting by Corrine Loomis-Dietz. She is from the Salem, Ore. area and has gained recognition as a painter and art educator. The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency is seeking individuals interested in volunteering to play victims for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) disaster simulations. Quilts for all Seasons, a quilt show presented by the Ladies of the Lake Quilt Guild, will be held October 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Youth and Family Link Building, 907 Douglas Avenue, Longview. In order to ease transition for incoming freshmen and transfers, several upperclassmen at Wahkiakum High School stepped into newly appointed leadership roles through a program called Link Crew. The leaders were selected from students who completed applications requiring an essay about why they wanted to mentor. TOASTY--As this week begins, it's feeling pretty toasty around our area with temps in the 80's, so those who had weekend plans wound up with plenty of sunshine. They are Skamokawa valley residents Sunrise Fletcher and Andrew Emlen, and not technically local but seemingly so because of his long association with Emlen and the lower Columbia region, Jeffrey Reynolds.
