Last week the plans for the entertainment stage, that the Fair Board would like to have built, were given to Chuck Beyer who manages the Building and Planning for Wahkiakum County. He will redraw the plans so a contractor can look at his blueprints and build the stage at the Fairgrounds. Soon we will have a new entertainment stage! We have been using cedar shavings in many landscaping projects on the Fairgrounds. The shavings smell good and are a red cedar color that looks really nice in our flower beds. We also like to use the shavings in the...

The barn is looking great thanks to Horse Barn Superintendent Valerie Antijun...
News from Naselle: Though I wasn’t able to see a “Beauty and the Beast” performance this past week, I have heard nothing but rave revues. Some folks liked it so much that they actually went to see it twice. It’s comments like those that should make this community very proud of our wonderful Barb Swanson and her expertise in putting together these productions every year, while giving our kids the opportunity to gain self confidence and perform in front of appreciative audiences. This community is so fortunate to have good teachers and a wonderfu...

I have heard that rainy weather doesn’t stop people from traveling to rummage sales; I know that this is a true fact now. Even though it was raining so hard it was knocking blossoms off flowers, at 10 a.m. cars started pulling up! They came to shop, visit and look over the projects going on at the Fairgrounds. We had neighbors, friends and travelers stop by and everyone left with sacks of treasures. Many were amazed at the variety of items that have been donated to support our Fair. Special thanks to Jerry Ledtke and Ursula Petralia for v...

HALF NICE--The first half of the Easter holiday weekend was great as the sun was shining and it even warmed up quite a bit on Saturday; great for the Lion's Club Easter Egg Hunt and for those who were enjoying family gatherings. THIS SATURDAY--Whether you are young or old, if you'd like to check out some 4-H activities, head to Johnson Park in Rosburg...
The Wahkiakum County Fair Board's Easter Bingo was a successful fund raising event! By 6:30 p.m. the multi-purpose room at the grade school was filled with people ready to play bingo. The first number was called, the room turned quiet and all attention was focused on watching bingo cards. Each bingo game winner would take home a big delicious ham or two fresh frozen chickens! After 10 rounds of bingo, it was time for some raffle tickets to be drawn. The generous donations from our community were piled high on a table, raffle ticket numbers call...

SUN!--As this week began, the area saw some sunshine, that was the good part. The bad part was that it was below freezing a couple of nights in our area and other parts of the state. Some even saw snow! It was great to see the sun shining, and I know folks were busy mowing their lawns and washing their cars, but the temperatures sure could have been warmer. With some areas back east expecting over a foot of snow this week and over 200 tornadoes tearing through the south and killing dozens of people last weekend, I guess we shouldn't complain...
At least we are seeing some real spring like weather the past few days. The temperatures are still colder than normal, I think. The poor cherry trees and apple trees aren’t sure whether they should start to bloom or not. I guess we just have to chalk it up to “global warming.” News from Naselle Naselle-Grays River Valley School sports calendar for the coming week: Thursday-baseball at Naselle vs. Northwest Christian at 3:30 p.m., track at Wahkiakum at 3:30 p.m.; Friday-JV baseball at Wahkiakum at 3:30 p.m.; Monday-fastpitch and baseball in Nase...
The Fairgrounds were the site of the Wahkiakum County Fair Board's Used Book and Rummage Sale last weekend! We had lots of people stop by and purchase books and other good, useable items that were for sale. It was nice to visit with everyone that stopped by, seemed like a mini-fair get together. We plan on having used book sales and rummage sales at least once a month. Our community has donated items we still need to pick up for our next sale in May and we will also be receiving 20 boxes of good books to sell at this sale. Watch this column...
DIFFERENT DAYS--As the week began, it was absolutely miserable in West Valley, with rain coming down so hard on Sunday night that I wondered if I should be building an ark! However, it was great to see the work week begin with sunshine, as Monday was great, albeit windy, but that's okay, as at least we were able to let things dry out a little bit and the wind sometimes helps that happen a little faster. With a couple of nice days to follow, we are all quite pleased as the grass seems to grow faster than we can get the lawn mower filled up, so...

GRAY START--As this week begins, it's gray but dry and I woke to temperatures in the 30s. This is Spring? They say we're going to get lots of rain and by the end of the week it will be below freezing, so obviously Old Man Winter has not let go of his cold and miserable grip on us just yet. On Saturday we were even dodging heavy hail storms, between some sun breaks, so we had a bit of everything. SPECIAL DAYS--It seems I looked at the wrong month and got some dates mixed up last week so if you see a repeat of names this week, you'll understand...
