Antique sale at Redmen Hall

The Friends of Skamokawa will hold an antique sale at Redmen Hall. The sales will run from noon to 4 p.m. on June 21-24 and June 28-July 1.

Redmen Hall is located at 1394 SR 4 in Skamokawa.

Comprehensive Plan meeting set

The steering committee for the Cowlitz County Comprehensive Plan Update will meet on June 21 from 4-6 p.m. in the general meeting room of the Cowlitz County Administration Building 207 4th Avenue N. in Kelso. Bald Eagle volunteers

The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteers for this year's Bald Eagle Days Festival and Wooden Boat Show.

The chamber will hold a planning meeting today (Thursday) at 5:30 p.m. at the chamber office, located in the Julia Butler Hansen House in Cathlamet.

Trail walk to eradicate invasive plant species

The Marine Resources Committee is sponsoring a workshop at Vista Park on June 24 to discover the native plants growing along Arrowhead Trail at the park.

Thea Pyle will provide information on the invasive species that should be eliminated to protect those native to the area; Pyle has recorded nearly 60 native plants along this trail.

The beach walk begins at 11 a.m. to remove or tag invasive plants. Parking is at the beach turnaround. A picnic lunch will follow at the upper covered area; an RSVP is required for lunch. Call 849-4421 or 795-8605. Those not requiring lunch can join the group at 1 p.m. for the trail tour.

Kayaking course

tailored for women

Kayaking coach and Columbia River Kayaking founder Ginni Callahan will return home to Skamokawa to offer just one kayaking course in North America this year.

Babes in Boats will run from June 29 through July 1, can be taken as a one, two, or three day event and is a lighthearted approach to kayaking safety, efficiency, grace, and power, particularly tailored for women.

Callahan is one of the most highly certified coaches in the US, of either gender, backed by both the BCU and the American Canoe Association. She has coached paddlers across the US, in Mexico, and Australia. Only two other women in the US have achieved the world's highest Leadership Award, the British Canoe Union's 5-star.

SJFC plans summer

classes, field trips

St. James Family Center's childcare programs have summer activities and field trips for ages two-12.

Beginning June 15, there will be walks every Friday to Erickson Park, weather permitting from 2-5 p.m. On June 28, the family center has planned its first field trip to Cheryl Parker's Camping Ground on Puget Island for lunch and fun activities. Children will also participate in weekly cooking projects. More information about field trips and cooking projects can be obtained from center staff.

For an additional cost, children can be signed up for Youth Adventure Classes and can be transitioned from childcare to those classes and back to childcare if needed after those classes.

SJFC offers childcare on a sliding scale fee basis and provides assistance for applications to the Washington State Working Connections Child Care Subsidy Program. For more information, contact Esther Mendez at 795-8612.
