Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

June 7 — 1:07 p.m. Deputies responded when a domestic disturbance was reported at a Cathlamet home. 1:15 p.m. A caller reported that more than a dozen cows were loose and on a Puget Island road. The caller was able to get the cows back into a field and put up the fence, but he said it was going to fall over again. The owner was contacted and he planned to fix the fence. 2:44 p.m. A sexual assault was reported in Cathlamet. 10:47 p.m. A caller reported that she and her husband had been chased by a stray dog while walking in Cathlamet. The dog did not seem to be dangerous, but had been seen in the area regularly, and the owner was unknown.

June 8 — 12:40 a.m. Neighbors had been making a lot of noise since the day before, a Cathlamet apartment dweller said. 4:02 a.m. A Cathlamet resident, living in an apartment, said that the neighbor’s noise had resumed as soon as the deputy left. 8:35 a.m. A caller reported a stolen vehicle on a logging road on the east side of the county. 3:23 p.m. An individual in a Cathlamet apartment found broken glass all over the front porch. The caller called back to say neighbors were yelling at them. Deputies responded. 5:44 p.m. An individual said he had accidentally shot a neighbor’s dog while hunting nutria. A deputy went to look for the dog, and spoke to the owner. The dog did not appear to be injured or shot. 8:47 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a neighbor’s dogs had been barking. One had been chained up and the other was running loose. The Elochoman Valley resident called 45 minutes later to say the dogs were barking excessively. A deputy spoke with the neighbor who said she had the dogs outside because she was trying to clean the house. She agreed to bring them inside. 10:04 p.m. A Cathlamet resident found her door open when she returned home and asked for a deputy to check. A deputy responded and found the residence clear.

June 9 — 1:18 a.m. Dispatch received a 911 call from a Skamokawa residence, but nobody was on the line. Dispatch made two attempts to contact the caller. The first time, the phone was answered but there was nobody on the line, and it disconnected after a few seconds. The second time it went to an answering machine. Dispatch left a message. 12:41 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported an ailing deer on the side of the road. Fish and Wildlife were notified. A deputy was unable to locate the deer. 5 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that two people were in her home and would not leave. 5:14 p.m. A caller was concerned that a parent may have kidnapped a vulnerable adult and taken her to another state. He believed the individual was in danger. 5:22 p.m. A caller reported that a man who had gotten his vehicle stuck in the sand at Hornstra Beach was firing a weapon. A deputy responded. The subject said his vehicle was not stuck and he had not been shooting firearms. The deputy could not find any evidence that he had been, and no action was taken. 6:46 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a neighbor was building a fence on her property. 8:43 p.m. A walker reported aggressive dogs on a Puget Island road. She said it was a recurring problem. 8:48 p.m. A caller reported a truck traveling at high speeds on a Puget Island road. State patrol was notified. 10:51 p.m. A caller reported that a man in a burgundy vehicle had passed her sister on Elochoman Valley Road the day before. The vehicle had gone into reverse toward girl and the girl ran to a neighbor’s house. Today, the vehicle had been seen by someone else, sitting in their driveway. When someone approached, the driver left.

June 10 — 9:10 a.m. A Cathlamet resident asked for assistance with a juvenile who was acting out. A deputy and a representative from the mental health department responded. 12:30 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that someone was cutting logs on a neighbor’s property. A deputy responded and found out the individual had permission to be there. 2:08 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident said that her neighbor had knocked on her door. She refused to answer. The neighbor was attempting to serve papers in a civil process. 5:23 p.m. A teacher in Vancouver called to report that an unmanned six foot boat with GPS that had been built by his students had run aground on an island near Cathlamet. He asked for assistance in freeing it.

June 11 — 6:07 a.m. Dispatch received an abandoned 911 call. Dispatch called back and there was no answer. A second call was made, and the individual responded. She said she was trying to make a phone call. There were no problems. 7:02 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a neighbor’s dogs had been barking for the past three hours. A deputy witnessed the dogs barking for a continuous 18 minutes and spoke with someone at the home who said she was housesitting for the owners. The deputy told her she needed to keep the dogs quiet to prevent a citation. 8:41 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a clinic patient with a laceration on his hand to the hospital. 11:10 a.m. A Cathlamet resident said she had been attacked by a neighbor’s dog two days earlier. 12:16 p.m. A caller reported that someone was cutting wood illegally on Hornstra Beach. 3:15 p.m. An individual reported a stolen vehicle headed east on SR 4. An individual was taken into custody. 7:35 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that an unknown teenage boy had been watching her boys and then shot a nerf gun at her house. 7:50 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a Grays River home. 8:03 p.m. A Grays River resident reported that a cat had been stolen. 10:44 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR 4 near Risk Road. The driver had gone into the other lane, slowed to 20 mph, and stopped completely while the caller was behind them. State patrol was notified.

June 12 — 12:17 a.m. State patrol was getting a search warrant for a Puget Island address and asked for assistance from the sheriff’s department. 6:16 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having chest pain. 12:17 p.m. A motorist said she had almost been struck by a logging truck that was in her lane on East Valley Road. 12:23 p.m. An individual requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 5:54 p.m. A caller found baby raccoons in a Puget Island field. Fish and Wildlife were notified. 11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual who was hemorrhaging from a catheter.

June 13 — 8:52 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a neighbor’s dogs were on her property. A deputy responded. 1:23 p.m. A power outage was reported on West Valley Road. Power lines were in the roadway because a tree was coming down. A deputy, the Skamokawa Fire Department, and the PUD responded. 3:26 p.m. A caller reported that a suspect was living next to previous sexual assault victims and contacting them daily. 7:22 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that four men were firing rifles in a cottonwood field nearby. 8:22 p.m. An individual asked for assistance after locking keys in the car.
