Americans free to work hard, follow dreams

 


To The Eagle:

In my last letter, I explained my support for the 2nd Amendment and how important it is if we want to remain free. I shared how Switzerland dealt with the right to bear arms. What I reported was 100% correct when my parents immigrated to America, and remained so for many years. I still have family there and called my cousin to see if things had changed. Her husband reported that about 20 years ago, the country began suffering from the same Socialist/Communist idealogical invasion America is dealing with. Apparently there are now a small number of home invasions.

Currently, only the former soldier is required to report to a gun range once per year. Those who served in the military still bring their guns home. If they teach their family gun safety, the gun does not have to be locked up. If they choose not to teach safety, the gun is locked up in one place, intact. Only ammunition owned by the government is locked up. Good citizens can and do keep arms and ammunition for protection. He assured me that crime remains minimal.


My family members live and work in Switzerland. They have no motive to spin or misquote information from a travel advisory report as another writer chose to. The report actually says, “Non-violent petty crime…(a few crimes are listed)…remain the primary concerns throughout Switzerland.” And that, “Instances of violent crime are relatively low.”

Quoting the second amendment. “The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Sounds pretty clear to me. In America, regardless of our race or creed, we are free to work hard, follow our dreams, and succeed. Differences of opinion and respectful dialogue help us grow. The Declaration of Independence says, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” If we care about our freedom, how about returning this to the classroom?
