Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

November 27 — 7:11 p.m. A Puget Island caller made several claims, ranging from theft of a vehicle to sexual abuse of a minor. One deputy spoke to a family member while another deputy visited the home and found the woman extremely intoxicated. Because of inconsistencies in her statements, no further law enforcement action was taken.

November 28 — 5:14 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Puget Island resident who hadn’t been home for several days. A deputy contacted the individual’s employer to see if he was at work. 5:43 a.m. A caller reported that logging trucks were speeding on West Deep River Road. 8:04 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with covid-19. 10:31 a.m. A caller in Grays River reported that his equipment was damaged and fuel had been stolen. He said a white Dodge pickup was seen parked by his equipment around 4:30 a.m. 11:35 a.m. A deputy was requested for a civil standby at a North Welcome Slough Road home. 12:37 p.m. A caller reported a possible order violation. 3:39 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who was having trouble breathing. 4:27 p.m. A caller believed neighbors in Rosburg were dumping septic illegally.

November 29 — 4:10 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was having trouble breathing. 11:15 a.m. An abandoned car was found on SR 4 in the Grays River area. 1:18 p.m. A caller reported that a red log truck was speeding on West Deep River Road. 6:08 p.m. A burglar alarm was activated at a Cathlamet business. 7:32 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a youth in a Grays River home. 8:19 p.m. A Rosedale resident requested transport to the hospital for a mental health issue. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. 11:37 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who may have had a stroke.

November 30 — 3:11 p.m. The owner of a business in Cathlamet complained about a neighbor using the parking zone near her entrance to load and unload vehicles, creating a safety hazard and blocking her entrance. She was advised it was a civil issue because the businesses were on private property. She was told to contact her landlord. 3:32 p.m. A Puget Island resident said that a man in a silver car asked for change for gas. The caller was concerned the individual was casing properties. 9:31 p.m. A Rosedale resident asked for assistance after getting locked out of her home.

December 1 — 5:05 a.m. A one car accident was reported on SR 4 near Nassa Point. The vehicle was blocking the westbound lane. A deputy, District 4 Fire Department, and state patrol responded. No injuries were reported. 3:10 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle. 4:21 p.m. A caller reported that someone was driving up and down a Puget Island road for the last two hours with the music blaring. The driver would stop at the neighbor’s house and scream. It turned out someone was looking for a dog. 9:55 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911.

December 2 — 2:10 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and the District 4 Fire Department aided a Rosedale resident with a dislocated hip. 8 a.m. A caller reported wires down in the Rosedale area. The PUD was notified. 8:26 a.m. A caller reported a speeding logging truck with a white cab on a Deep River Road. 8:29 a.m. A wallet was found in Cathlamet and taken to the sheriff’s department. 1:17 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and the District 4 Fire Department aided an Elochoman Valley resident who was struggling to breathe. 4:04 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a patient who left the hospital with his IV in 10 minutes earlier. Law enforcement was asked to make sure the IV was out. 4:27 p.m. A caller reported a disabled pickup partially blocking Elochoman Valley Road after a tire came off the vehicle. The driver said someone was coming to help him, but the caller thought traffic control might be needed. 4:45 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Puget Island home after someone was found unresponsive on the floor. Narcan was administered and LifeFlight was en route. 8:16 p.m. A large tree limb fell on Columbia Street, blocking the westbound lane. A deputy cleared the road. 10:09 p.m. A caller said a tree limb caught fire after falling on a power pole on SR 4 and that wires were down in the Flandersville area. Two power outages were reported and the PUD said everything east of Abe Creek would be out. A deputy, the Cathlamet Fire Department and the PUD responded. The fire was extinguished. The PUD requested traffic control while they made repairs. Power was restored at 11:39 p.m. 10:44 p.m. an alarm was activated at a Rosedale business. It was set off accidentally while an employee was there.

December 3 — 6:10 p.m. A caller reported a possibly disabled vehicle on SR 4 a couple miles west of County Line Park. Deputies responded but were unable to locate the car. 7:35 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosburg address. The owner said the alarm was set off accidentally. A deputy responded and found the building secure. 10:46 p.m. A Grays River resident said a dog at a nearby home had been barking for hours and appeared to be in distress. The caller said it looked like no one was home. A deputy found a dog without a caller loose in the road. The landowner was able to get the animal back into the yard. A welfare check was requested for the resident. No one was home. 11:36 p.m. A caller reported that an erratic driver was unable to maintain the lane and almost went into the ditch multiple times. A deputy responded and found it was the driver of a school team. The driver was tired, so the other driver assisted.

December 4 — 2:12 a.m. A caller reported that Elochoman Valley Road was very slick. The county road department said they already treated it. 11:51 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who fell. 4:54 p.m. A deputy responded to a one vehicle accident. The airbag deployed, but the driver continued west. There were two occupants in the car. State patrol was notified. 9:40 a.m. Dispatch called back after a 911 call was disconnected. The man wouldn’t give any details, only said that the rain dialed the number.
