Sheriff's Report, February 23, 2023

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

February 13 — 12:34 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle dropped off two people by the bathrooms at Vista Park and returned later to pick them up, adding that it was an ongoing problem and that the morning prior, an employee found a mess in the bathrooms. A deputy met with the complainant, who said that a subject was rude and vulgar when he was told that the showers close at 10 p.m. The pair were told to leave or they would be trespassed. 5:26 a.m. An eastbound driver said he was sideswiped by a westbound vehicle on SR 4 in the Little Cape Horn area. He said the other vehicle continued west. 7:36 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet home after a medical alarm was activated and there was no response. 10:32 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check at an Elochoman Valley home after she was told there was a back flow of sewer into the residence and children were playing in it. A deputy responded and found the home uninhabited and no evidence of a sewage problem. 12:08 p.m. A caller hung up after dialing 911. 2:59 p.m. A deputy was asked to accompany a representative from the Oregon Department of Human Services who was checking on a minor at an Elochoman Valley home. 4:03 p.m. A caller said a tree came down on power lines near Nassa Point. Power outages were reported at homes nearby and at County Line Park. The PUD responded and power was restored at 6:18 p.m. The Washington State Department of Transportation posted signage for drivers. 6:22 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 8:06 p.m. Benton County authorities asked the sheriff’s department to be on the lookout for a subject in a silver Kia who was involved in a disturbance. He was wanted for aggravated assault and domestic battery in the second degree and was believed to be armed and headed to California. 8:22 p.m. A West Valley resident said he lost access to water at his trailer after a neighbor cut his hose. A deputy responded. 8:40 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet address. A deputy responded and found nothing of concern. 9:56 p.m. An individual was taken into custody following a domestic disturbance at the Chevron trailer park.

February 14 — 2:21 a.m. A caller said that a suburban pulling a trailer spun out in the snow on SR 4 near the summit of KM and was blocking the eastbound lane. 5:01 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Elochoman Valley resident. 6:11 a.m. A caller said a tree was in the process of falling onto SR 4 near County Line Park. WSDOT was notified. 6:37 a.m. An east county resident reported that a tree caused a power outage. The District 4 Fire Department was notified. 5:14 p.m. A welfare check was requested for an East Valley resident. The caller called back at 5:34 p.m. to say he was able to make contact with the individual. 5:48 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that an unknown male approached his home and asked for a ride. The individual was trespassed.

February 15 — 9:25 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported an Alger Creek resident who injured his knee in a fall. 5:37 p.m. A Middle Valley resident reported that a family member was at his home, which he believed may be violating a restraining order. A deputy spoke to the caller, but was unable to find any orders on file. 8:24 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had high blood pressure and vision problems and may have had a stroke.

February 16 — 10:40 a.m. An East Valley resident said there were 15 cows in her yard after they came through a fence. A possible owner was notified. 6:11 p.m. A caller said a dark SUV was traveling west on SR 4 near County Line Park with no tail lights.

February 17 — 12:05 a.m. A caller said that someone was trying to gain entrance to their yurt at Vista Park, threatening to kill them, and looking for someone named Kira. The caller said her husband was armed. A deputy and state patrol responded, but they were unable to locate the subject. The park host did not know of anyone named Kira staying at the park. 10:23 a.m. An east county resident was concerned about a sailboat anchored on the Oregon side of the river, and reported seeing no signs of life in the past four days. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified. They said it had been checked in the past and no one was on board. 3:09 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a West Valley resident who fell. 4:18 p.m. A designated crisis responder planning to do an evaluation on a subject asked for assistance from a deputy. 6:54 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and a deputy responded to a Skamokawa residence to aid an individual with an injury after a fall.

February 18 — 7:34 a.m. The manager of a Rosedale business asked to have three people trespassed after they were seen stealing on store cameras. 7:47 a.m. The Grays River Fire Department reported they were conducting training on a planned structure fire if any calls came in regarding the matter. 9:25 a.m. A water line break was reported at a Rosedale business. The caller requested that the water main be shut off. 9:43 a.m. A theft was reported at a Rosedale business. 1:31 p.m. A caller reported rock in the roadway on SR 4 near Nassa Point. State patrol was notified. 1:32 p.m. A Cathlamet resident complained about a neighbor’s barking dog. 5:40 p.m. A caller said he had pictures of a man looking in his garage window. He called later to say he had the subject’s name after posting the pictures on social media. 6:48 p.m. A Puget Island resident complained about someone with floodlights on his house. 6:52 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported receiving a threat from a neighbor who was upset about the motion sensor activated security lights on his home. 7:11 p.m. A Skamokawa resident called to report a possible burglary at a neighbor’s home. Deputies and state patrol responded. It turned out to be the resident of the home. 7:34 p.m. A caller said she heard someone being threatened while they were talking on the phone. Deputies responded to a Rosedale home and an individual was taken into custody.

February 19 — 10:56 a.m. A caller reported identity theft. The caller was advised to contact the Social Security Administration. 1:49 p.m. A caller said that a westbound vehicle pulling a travel trailer on SR 4 was speeding and swerving near Brooks Slough. State patrol was notified. 2:39 p.m. An officer from state patrol was on foot and in pursuit of a subject on SR 4 near Brooks Slough and requested assistance from the sheriff’s department. 5:34 p.m. A caller said that the elevation lights on the North Bonneville power tower were out. Someone from the PUD said he would notify the person who managed the tower. 9:31 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had tested positive for covid-19 and was short of breath.
