Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Janice Joy Cothren
passed away peacefully
at her home on August
14, 2024 at the age of 84
surrounded by her loving family. Janice was
born to Francis and Laura Edmonson in Prosser,
Washington on February 11, 1940. Eventually the family moved to
Cathlamet following the
booming logging industry in the area. Janice
married Carl Cothren in April of 1958 and then
graduated from Cathlamet High School that summer.
In 1959 they welcomed their daughter Bettie
Jane. Carl and Janice were married for 38 years
and divorced in 1996. Janice worked 32 years as
a bus driver for the Naselle School District and
loved the many families she drove over the years.
After she retired she moved up north to the Woodinville area to live with her daughter and son in
law (Merle Sorenson), so she could be closer to
family. She spent those 18 years making amazing memories with her family and being a doting
grandmother and great grandmother.
Janice loved when the family was all together
and one of her favorite hobbies was taking them
all to the beach to go clam digging. Nobody can
clean or fry a clam quite like she did. Janice's
passing has left her family and her little Shih Tzu
Bella with broken hearts. She is survived by her
sister Rosalie (Tom) Webb, daughter Bettie (Merle) Sorenson, niece Lorie (Steve) Smith, granddaughter Courtney (Wade) Edelbrock, great-niece
Breanna Smith, great-nephew Austin Smith and
3 great grandchildren Reese, Hank and Chase.
She was preceded in death by her parents Francis
and Laura Edmonson, brother Kenneth Edmonson, former husband Carl Cothren and nephew
Lonnie Webb.
