    June 21, 2007 The Julia Butler Hansen Municipal pool has opened and offers pool activities such as open swims and lessons. The Cathlamet Woman's club feels it is important for every child in Wahkiakum County to learn to swim, so again this year, as several years in the past, swimming lesson scholarships will be offered to low income families.     June 21, 2007 In response to a report from the Wahkiakum County Weed Control Board, county commissioners voted to restore the board’s budget for 2007. Board representative Mike McAvoy reported that the board had overhauled its budget and programs for 2007 and cut their expense to the county Current Expense Fund.     June 21, 2007 Wahkiakum County commissioners on Tuesday ordered personnel cuts at the Wahkiakum Family Practice Clinic to help address a revenue shortfall expected to total nearly $250,000 this year. Earlier this year as county officials began trying to deal with the projected deficit, commissioners said they would try to find $125,000 in their budgets to transfer to the clinic, while the clinic was to come up with a $125,000 cost savings.     June 21, 2007 The Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet will hold its annual Scholarship Golf Tournament to benefit Wahkiakum High School Seniors on July 7 at Skyline Golf Course. Golfers, individuals and four-person teams, are invited to participate in the scramble format tournament.     June 21, 2007 At it most recent meeting, the Wahkiakum Community Foundation Board of Trustees voted to establish a new Medical Clinic Endowment Fund to support the Wahkiakum Family Practice Clinic. Commissioners Tom Doumit and Dan Cothren had requested that the foundation develop a campaign to raise funds in an endowment fund that would provide revenues to help run the clinic in years to come.     The Cathlamet Town Council on Monday adopted an ordinance setting increases in rates for customers of the town. The council also worked with Mayor Dick Swart to facilitate the start of a street improvement project this summer on Broadway Street. The sewer rate increases of $5 per month take effect July 1. On January 1, 2008, rates will increase another $5 per month, and they’ll go up again $5 per month on January 1, 2009.
