NOT BAD--After some morning cloudiness, last Saturday turned out pretty decent although I still think the wind was a tadbit chilly, but then I suppose it all depended on where you were. Sunday morning was a different story as it was all wet when I got up and we had misty and/or cool conditions most of the day. The upcoming Memorial weekend was looking wet but the latest weather models are showing a much improved outlook, so let's hope that holds as it would certainly be nice to have a dry weekend, but it looks like we'll have to get through...

Randall William Shroyer 12/11/1950 ~ 05/22/2021 Loving father to three daughters Lisa, Tina and Toby and two sons Tony and Ryan. A proud Grandpa of eight and great grandfather of six. Randy was a patient, kind and caring husband to Trish for 26 years. He was a wonderful man. Randy seemed to make a new friend everywhere he went and was generous to help anyone that needed a hand. He found his little slice of heaven in Cathlamet, far from the city and close to the fish. Humble and quiet in spirit,...
To use a phrase I haven't heard in years, Caden Tawater is a ham. His quick, dry wit had me laughing from the word go. He spends much of his days in his favorite teacher's classroom. Kayli Hurley is kind, Caden said. If he has to pick a favorite class or subject over the past four years, it has to be robotics, which he took with Jeff Rooklidge. It turns out that Caden enjoys building stuff. Which might be why he loves HermitCraft on YouTube.com, a channel devoted to building in Minecraft by a...
Wahkiakum County Board of Commissioners handled a variety of business at their meeting Tuesday, including: --Commissioners had planned last week to act on a resolution supporting federal recognition of the Chinook Tribe; however, the resolution hadn't been finished, so action will be delayed to next week. --Commissioners asked that the prosecuting attorney's office provide more information about three claims for damages; one from 2018 for $300.05, another from 2019 for $500, and a third from 2020 for $900. The damages resulted from road...
Oneida Road residents are seeing a return of congestion problems on the county road to occur with many recreational fishing seasons. At the Tuesday meeting of the county board of commissioners, area resident Corbett McMasters asked county officials to enforce traffic laws and also to address a recent rash of burglaries. Anglers using the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife boat launch lack adequate parking and end up parking along the narrow county road, McMasters said. "It's one lane; it's crazy," McMasters said. Area residents have...

To The Eagle: A lady of Swiss lineage recently wrote in to express her scorn for social activists whom she describes as “Socialist/Communist” who hate America. How dare she accuse me of hating America because I don’t believe, like her, that “ no one’s home or loved one will be safe” in this country until we all go out and buy even more guns. “Love America as I do” she says. “Let us be kind” she says. Where’s the love and kindness in her lies, that those of us who work for social justice, the Woke, seek to “divide Americans, release viol...
To The Eagle: In last week’s Letter to the Editor I truly liked what Lily Kolditz wrote: Don’t let “them” divide us. It was written with consideration, tact and common sense; I couldn’t have said it better. Toni Below Cathlamet...
To The Eagle: I am so embarrassed to be a U.S. citizen. I've always wondered why Europeans didn't like [U.S.]Americans. Now I know. We are easily bribed! If I lived in Georgia and voted democrat I was promised a $2000.00 check. Instead most U.S. citizens received a check for $1400.00 including the people of Georgia. Not $2000.00 as promised by our president-to-be. If you get a covid vaccine shot you can get a free donut, free beer, free french fries, and if we live in Ohio a chance to win $1,000,000.00! No wonder people in Europe look down...

NICE ONE--I don't know where you were this past weekend, but around here, we had a pretty nice one. We had morning clouds but by noon, it was back to sunshine, along with a bit of a breeze; it was really quite nice. Personally, I could do without the wind but for the sail-boarders, it was just perfect! I hope you were able to get out and about on the sunny days we've been having, and if all goes according to the latest report, we will continue to have pretty decent days with just a chance of showers on maybe one or two days, so hopefully you we...
