According to CEO Ken Johnson, WWest is currently "bouncing between the Cathlamet area and the peninsula on different projects," which has had some local residents wondering when their area will be fiber-optic ready. "For some bigger projects, we're as mu...

CLOUDY BEGINNING. Well, as this week begins, our sunny Saturday has been replaced by a cloudy, dry Sunday—not too bad. My weather app for the week only shows a couple of days with a chance of showers, so that would be great—it certainly beats a week of rain! We may catch up on some yardwork, as there seems to be a six-inch growth spurt of the weeds every other day… tough to keep up with all the grass and weed-eating these days! SPECIAL DAYS. Those celebrating birthdays the May 29 through June 5 are Serene Snow, David Michaels, Jeanne Pauls...

Wahkiakum County residents living west of KM Mountain have, at times, had to travel 30 minutes or more to go into the Sheriff’s Office in Cathlamet to do any in-person filing or to speak with staff. The Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) recently reopened a field office at Johnson Park in Rosburg to, according to WCSO, “provide folks on the Westend better access to us, have face-to-face contact or, if they have any questions, comments, or even complaints that they might not call the main office line about.” The office being located...
The Cathlamet fire hall lies within a residential portion of the town. As such, we have neighbors. We are fortunate to have some very good neighbors who keep an eye on the fire hall and very rarely have any complaints about noise or other activities. For that, we are appreciative. I would like to personally acknowledge one neighbor in particular; his name is Stephen Southern. Mr. Southern has, for the last couple of years, quietly and without any acknowledgement been helping maintain the outside of the fire hall. He has been pressure washing...

DAMP. This past weekend was a bit soggy but how soggy depends on where you were located. One friend of mine was experiencing "buckets" of rain just a few miles east of me, while I was just sitting under some clouds with occasional sprinkles and a dash of sunshine thrown in. Now, nighttime was a different story, as it poured off and on Saturday night. I'm hoping that by the end of the month we have some drier weather showing up since there are many events planned and they are much more enjoyable when the sun is shining! Regardless, we are much...

I'm sitting on the back porch this morning with my black dog, Abigail at my feet. Both of us listen to the boats leave the Elochoman Marina for another day of trolling back and forth. Dropping something magical, colorful, and wrapped in or containing a small piece of Bumblebee product damn near to the bottom. Easing back in the captain's chair with the cap to the old school Stanley thermos filled to the brim and a hunk of fresh-made pumpkin bread at the ready. It's a nice morning, albeit a bit...
