I went to the Summer Lunch Program meeting at the Community Center last Monday at 1 p.m. I was impressed with the history of the program the last few years and the planning for this year's program. Tsuga Gallery of Cathlamet has announced its second annual Cathlamet Art Festival, “A River of Art.” Scheduled to take place on August 3 and 4 of this year, it will be in conjunction with the Cathlamet Elochoman Marina Wooden and Classic Boat Show. The 34th annual Great White Tail Run is Saturday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m., in Skamokawa. This event, sponsored by Wahkiakum 4-H, features a 10K, 5K and 2 mile course along the Julia Butler Hansen National Refuge. Award recognition is given for overall male and female winners in each event, with ribbons for the top three finishers in each age division. The Wahkiakum Blooms made their debut on Main Street this week with Phase I of their downtown beautification project. This project was started last fall with a brainstorming session to put together a strategic plan to encourage visitors to spend more time downtown creating more activity for local businesses. Wahkiakum County's transit service has slowly grown and expanded since it was formed in 2004, system operators said Tuesday. Wahkiakum on the Move has grown from service three days a week with one bus and two drivers to six days a week with runs between Naselle and Kelso with four buses, three vans and 11 drivers. William James Karwoski (Bill) of Rosburg, was born on July 13, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois and died March 12, 2018 at OHSU in Portland. He was raised and received his education in Illinois and Missouri where he earned his PhD in Mining and Nuclear Engineering. His career path took him first to Boeing in the Seattle area, followed by the Bureau of Mines in Spokane, Grand Junction, Colorado and the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington. Members of the Wahkiakum High School golf team were among the injured in a five-vehicle traffic accident at 1:25 p.m. last Thursday. According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, the team was in a 2005 Ford Excursion, fourth in a line of eastbound vehicles stopped for highway maintenance work near milepost 44, about two miles west of County Line Park.
