News from Naselle: Sports calendar for the Naselle Comet teams this coming week: The Naselle Comet football team beat Lyle/Wishram 68-38 last weekend to advance to the state Class 1B football semifinals. They'll face Almira-Coulee-Hartline (ACH) next Saturday, 1 p.m., at the Apple Bowl in Wenatchee. Taylor Gudmundsen, Naselle, Volleyball (SR) is one of the athletes of the week honored last week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). Gudmundsen led her team to a seventh place finish at last week’s State Tournament in Yakima. She racked up 119 assists, 41 digs, 15 kills, and 13 aces in four matches. On November 11, 2018, Lenore Madeline Sorenson died peacefully surrounded by family. Lenore was born to Theodore and Litta (Knifong) Swanson on May 10, 1918, in Rosburg, Washington with five sisters and two brothers. She was part of a musical family and she loved to sing and play piano with her sisters while her dad played the fiddle. Later in life she sang with a local quartet of friends. Thursday update: Challenger Gene Strong took an six-vote lead over incumbent county Commissioner Blair Brady in the latest count of Wahkiakum County general election votes. Pacific Financial Corporation (PFC), the holding company for Bank of the Pacific, last Friday announced plans to close branches in Naselle and Warrenton. According to a PFC news release, both branches will retain an automated teller machine (ATMs) in their respective locations.
