    News from Naselle: Sports calendar for the Naselle Comet teams this coming week: The Naselle Comet football team beat Lyle/Wishram 68-38 last weekend to advance to the state Class 1B football semifinals. They'll face Almira-Coulee-Hartline (ACH) next Saturday, 1 p.m., at the Apple Bowl in Wenatchee.     Taylor Gudmundsen, Naselle, Volleyball (SR) is one of the athletes of the week honored last week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). Gudmundsen led her team to a seventh place finish at last week’s State Tournament in Yakima. She racked up 119 assists, 41 digs, 15 kills, and 13 aces in four matches. Gudmundsen was also named co-most valuable player for the Columbia Valley League, sharing honors with Katie Kogler of Firm Foundation. Lenore was born to Theodore and Litta (Knifong) Swanson on May 10, 1918, in Rosburg, Washington with five sisters and two brothers.     The Wahkiakum Lady Mules and Naselle Comettes will play today for seventh and eighth places in the Class 2B and Class 1B volleyball tournaments.     Thursday update: Challenger Gene Strong took an six-vote lead over incumbent county Commissioner Blair Brady in the latest count of Wahkiakum County general election votes. After the Thursday morning count, Strong, the former county sheriff, led Brady 1,188 to 1,182. The next count will be at 12 noon Nov. 27.     Pacific Financial Corporation (PFC), the holding company for Bank of the Pacific, last Friday announced plans to close branches in Naselle and Warrenton. According to a PFC news release, both branches will retain an automated teller machine (ATMs) in their respective locations.
