June 7 , 200 Heirs of the couple who donated the site of the Rosburg School have filed suit to recover ownership of the property. John and Helen Johnson sold the site for $1 to Wahkiakum County in December, 1936, for use as a public park or public school. School District 66 soon built a school on the site, and the facilities were operated by the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District until last summer, when the district, no longer needing the site, returned the property to Wahkiakum County. June 7 , 2007 The Columbia Estuary Environmental Education Program (CEEEP) at the Wahkiakum Community Foundation has selected 13 high school students to work on two summer projects in the Cathlamet area. The Wahkiakum Community Foundation's Board of Trustees this week announced that they will receive State funding to support the purchase of five acres at the Grays River Covered Bridge. The acreage will become the "Ahlberg Park," named for the pioneer family who homesteaded the area. Wahkiakum PUD continued its discussion Tuesday of the proposed expansion of the Western Wahkiakum water system to the Oneida and Salme neighborhoods. The board discussed funding the project and the possibility of using a $216,000 grant to pay for half of the work, with a 45 percent match of $180,000 from the PUD and the remaining amount split between those who would benefit from the new water system.
