This is an AKC sanctioned event in which the dogs compete by chasing an artificial bunny around a 10 acre field. A good field participated in the 2014 Bald Eagle Run last Saturday and raised over $400 for a new track and field record board for Wahkiakum High School. "Thank you everyone that participated in the Bald Eagle Run," said coordinator Mike Riley. The sockeye salmon tally this year at the lower Columbia River's Bonneville Dam on July 8 set a record for any season since the construction of the dam was completed in 1938 and the counts began. Mid-summer sockeye spawners counted passing Bonneville through July 8 totaled 526,367, and counting. The record for an entire season was a 515,673 fish count in 2012. The 2014 Bald Eagle Fun Run on July 19 will benefit a record board for the Wahkiakum High School track and field program. The run will start at 9 a.m. on Cathlamet's Main Street and features events for walkers and runners. There will be 2-mile, 5k and 10k events with gender and age-based divisions. Two Wahkiakum Mule golfers made the final cut, and the Mules placed fourth overall in the state 2B golf tournament this week.
