Last Thursday, Wahkiakum High School held its only home track meet of the season. Teams from Adna, Onalaska and Pe Ell were in attendance. The Mules took first in girls' competition with 122 points and placed third in boys' competition with 36 points. The Mules also secured head to head wins versus Adna, 213, and Napavine, incomplete, to raise their season record to 10-5. The Wahkiakum Mules golf team's season record dropped last week to 3-4 after posting a four-person total 229 to Ilwaco's 191 and North Beach's 224. The day started and ended in heavy rain and wind; however the majority of the round was sunny and fair. Unfortunately the young Mules showed their inexperience as Surfside Golf Course turned out to be a major challenge for all of them. The 2016 Wahkiakum Mule baseball season got off to a good start with four wins in the last week against Naselle, Vernonia and Mossyrock. Last Wednesday, the Mules beat the Naselle Comets 6-0 in a game that had been postponed due to rain the day before. Pitcher Zach Brown got the win. On offense, Z. Brown went 1-3. The young Mules had a tough start of the 2016 season at one of the most challenging golf courses in the State, RMG, Oakbrook in Lakewood, WA . The 4 person total of 224 fell 26 shots short of Life Christian's 198 and Ilawco's 210. Junior lady Sarah Shi's 48 led the boys team and finished 5th out of the 16 boys that played and 2nd best among the 9 ladies that competed. The Lady Mules finished district in fourth place after a win and two losses last week. This weekend the team travels to Mt. Vernon to face Friday Harbor in regional play.
